She's done it again...flipped the script and made an unexpected left turn.

But then again i suppose with Meshell its never a cliche' at all... 'always expect the unexpected'.

the sound on the new "Article 3" EP is completely different from her last project 'Dance of The Infidel'. (If you're one who likes categories that last great piece of work Dance of the Infidel would most likely fall under the category of improvisational Jazz)

On this new 'Article 3' EP ...the improvisational element is still there, but the musical style is something else... a hybrid of... well... well, of everything really.

There's a spoken word intro...

...there is a beautiful intimate acoustic heartbreaker ballad with haunting vocals by Oumou Sangare along with meshell...

...there's a soulful midtempo funky spacey cosmic groove with vocals by the wonderful Sy Smith along with Meshell...

...and theres two revved up rockers...If i HAD to pin em down i'd say they're a kinetic mix of soulful rock/funk/afro-polyrythmic/ middleeastern/punk stuff...yeah..that about sums it up i guess. These two have guitars by Mike Severson and Pat Metheny and some kick-butt drumming by Deantoni Parks....

I suggest you grab "Article 3" if you can...(available as an Import if you live within the US)

I'm undecided at the moment wether or not I should get this. These songs are going to be on here up-coming CD in February, right? I guess I'll wait then. Her show in Zürich last Friday was the sh*t, though. She certainly rocks hard.

I'll absolutely HAVE to buy this ~ adore MeShell and have loved Oumou Sangare since a friend sent some of her music several years ago. What an intriguing combination of voices!
