No offense to Prince, but Doyle Bramhall II ... can shred that guitar like a beast, a straight-up BEAST...
(and he married Susannah...) I'm grooving to a video clip of him performing "Time." The cat is unreal. Listen to his singing, you hear traces of Donny Hathaway... Listen to his playing, and he's likely to weave bits of Albert King, SRV and Slowhand in the mix... Yet he remains original and impressive. The brotha's bad!

doyle brahmall 2 is nothing compares to prince playing.
my friends saw doyle live with clapton in budapest they said he often missed a beat, and that dpyle was jelous on derek truck who was the star of the night along with clapton. they also said clapton gave bad looks to doyle because he often made mistakes. doyle is good on rhythm but absolutly sucks on lead guitar. i saw reports of clapton concerts and i saw many ppl praise derek trucks ,and complain on doyle. everytime i saw doyle play he was otplayed by others who played with him.

Nope.
I stand by it. And, I'm not just talking about his Girl Bros-produced albums... That man is an awesome talent. He's far bluesier than Prince, but can get down when he wants. He must've been channeling P, when he put on this outfit... An upside-down southpaw, like our beloved theAudience.

I've gotta back up ThreadBare and my left-handed upside-down brother Doyle.
Not being a current Clapton fan I haven't seen him live. That's with the exception of the Crossroads Festival DVD where he seemed to hold his own. The other example would be... ...the Sessions for Robert J DVD where he availed himself well I thought. Particularly the segment where he and Clapton played the acoustic duets at a location where Robert Johnson recorded. As far as solo work, Green Light Girl & Problem Child are pretty rockin' tunes. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Yeah, Doyle is the man - don't forget he also toured with Roger Waters and played the David Gilmour parts, along with some other ace guitarists. And he's an avowed Donny Hathaway fan - you can definitely hear the influence on some of his vocals. I have his solo cds, along with the classic Arc Angels cd he did with Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon and Charlie Sexton. There's no need to compare him with Prince - they're two totally different players, each great in his own way.
Last time I visited his website, he had a cool cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Pusherman". The falsetto was too funky! My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

Last time I visited his website, he had a cool cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Pusherman". The falsetto was too funky! just wanted to add that Doyle was also blazing on several Meshell tracks as well...from what i've heard him do with meshell (and on one of his solo records that i have) i do like his scruffy kinetic playing style... like JesseDezz said, he and Prince are different players...but both play with some passion and emotion...Prince has always been one of my favorite guitar players when he lets himself go. And like i said i really like what i've heard of Doylle on meshells stuff, as well as on one of his solo records... As for Clapton alledgedly not digging Doyle's playing...well honestly, while i have and like some EC (mostly older stuff), for me lately i sometimes find Erics playing lacking in raw emotion and expression...its technically sound and all but emotively bland...and (for me anyway) the best music is more about emotion & expressing rawly & honestly as upposed to technically crafting the perfect note at the perfect time...ya know what i'm saying? Ideally, I don't want emotion with NO technical ability. And I know I don't want technical ability with NO emotion. but i will always choose exceptional emotional expression with SOME level of technical ability over exceptional technical ability with only SOME level emotion ...every time. and i still say that when Prince is on his game he can be one of the best at both...expression and technique... didn't know Doyle was married to Suzanna though...and please tell me that that alledged picture of him in the Princely purple and lace was just some photoshop foolery...Doyle didn't REALLY break out in that hookup did he? cmon...say it ain't so?
