LIVING LEGENDS that you like their work(s) but you DON'T like 'em as ppl Like I said, is their any LIVING LEGENDS that you respect their work(Acting-music,,,etc etc etc!)??
And why you don't LIKE THEM??? I will start wit my list: Aretha Franklin-->I respect her music matter o' fact I like most of her work, God knows I do. But I neva liked the woman and thats becoz of her attitude and the way she treats ppl. Its like everyone in the biz should praise her b4 they got their breakthrought and the whole Ashanti thang made it worse, don't get me wrong I DON'T LIKE ASHANTI but why dis-respect the young sistah?? Yes she don't deserve any award or the new Alicia Keys position she's in and YES I don't think she also deserve to be dis-respected,,thats just foul from Aretha. An old woman who have made it through the thick n' thin should've GREW UP and leave these games 4 the critics. Diana Ross--->Good lawd, when will she realize that she's an old woman and grow the fuck up already?? Does she think of herself as the black Miss Monro?? The whole DIVA shit is the worst thang about her and Aretha. Rick James-FUNKY?? Hell yes. LOVED?? Hell no. His full of bitter-ness and he should stop actin like he's some George Clinton. Whitney Houston-You just can't go wrong wit that voice, but lol how the hell you're gonna sit you black ass here and tell me that you're a good ol' christian, church black woman when you CUSS 1000 in a short sentence?? Does that make sense 2 anyone ?? Another thing, b4 she start bitching about the media she should look at herself and ask 'What did I do 2 deserve this??' she'll come up wit an answer which is: Publishized her every move in her early days(Even her personal life and talking about it like crazy) just 4 the fame's sake. Her attitude toward ppl is mighty BAD and not 2 mention---a DIVA Larry Graham-After I watched the RAVE 2000 DVD I finaly anderstood why ppl hate him so much, I'm not saying I do but I'll neva LIKE HIM. Madonna-All I could say is "Whats goes around comes right after". She shoulda known that if she spread love 2 ppl she sho nuff won't feel sad and bitter like these days. Nothing personal tho, hope I didn't offend someone. Peace

I don't know if P.Diddy counts as a living legend but I got 2 give him credit 4 his business sense and becoming a young mogul. But I don't like anything else about him. He has no actual music talent or anything like that.

She doesn't pick the nominees or recipients. Award winners named after people are not chosen by the person the award is named after. Aretha treats people just fine. Diana Ross--->Good lawd, when will she realize that she's an old woman and grow the fuck up already?? Does she think of herself as the black Miss Monro?? The media and fans bestow the "diva" junk on people, not the divas themselves. Rick James-FUNKY?? Hell yes. LOVED?? Hell no. His full of bitter-ness and he should stop actin like he's some George Clinton.
And he's been bitter for over 2 decades now. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I'm not convinced that's true, since I'm only hearing about it here. And even if it is, this Ashanti chick is being recognized for an ARETHA FRANKLIN AWARD - that in itself should be at least indicative of longevity. Damn, the girl sneezes out one popular song and her name is associated with The Queen of Soul??? I don't think so. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Strange that four of these folks are Detroiters (Aretha, Diana and Madonna were born here (Aretha still lives here) and Rick James lived here for quite a while...)
Hope this doesn't reflect badly on the city!

That award should be indicative of being really, really important and popular for a little while, then coasting on marketing and sales figures for 30 years while you sit on your fat ass and stop making good music. you know, i really don't like this thing: [This message was edited Tue Aug 13 9:13:23 PDT 2002 by tommyalma]

I would have to say Madonna. IMO she's a skank who sucked and fucked her way to the top. She may be a good entertainer, but IMO she is not a good musician and she makes me sick.

Show a little more insight. No, because then we'll descend into pointless trivia-slinging. I've seen it happen before, and it's not pretty. Let's at least keep those kind of arguments to Prince-related items, right? And while I'm at it, I could really say the same thing about James Brown. "Hey, they were old, weird and socially irrelevant before you were born!" Hey, fat floats, and so has her career. Witness?

Oh I hate to say it, but the three people i most admire musically are sometimes truely horrible people.
Prince Bowie Numan Prince for reasons more eloquently posted elsewhere on this site. Bowie for his greed, the continuous re-interpretations of his past that show him in a good light, and his constant pandering to the wishes and tastes of his critics. Numan, again for his greed, and the seriously bad attitude that goes with it. As well as his sudden lack of conviction when a cheque is waved under his nose.

I've known many greedy people, it doesnt make them horrible people. Unless that greed leads to killing or raping someone, selling babies, or selling kids into a porn business I dont see the horribleness in it.

Awww c'mon Maxxx, you gotta bust loose on MJ The Man too... Yeah I don't buy the insipid, Peter Pan softie thing either. As you know I'm more suspicious of him and his real motives all the way round though. I could name plenty of artist's who as a person don't enamour me, but the music must be taken as objectively as possible IMO.
