Personally, I would associate Stevie Wonder's "You and I" with O'Bryan before I would think of Mariah Carey, per what Alex and I discussed earlier.

Had i heard (and liked) that version i definitely would've enlisted it in there nod

I'll look it up

"not really. Norman Whitfield & Barrett Strong wrote the song, and they recorded versions with the Miracles and the Isley Brothers even before Gladis or Marvin."

I meant to say Marvin Gaye recorded it first. My mistake.

We Can Work It Out--- Beatles/Stevie. I don't know how definitive either version is to tell the truth but I at least like them both.

Killing Me Softly-- Roberta Flack/Al B. Sure/Fugees in that order. Somebody mentioned the song but left off Al. hmph!

How Sweet it is to be Loved by You-- James Taylor's version was awful and should get no mention. I prefer Michael Bolton's version of When A Man Love's A Woman to that. (Neither is definitive lol )

Even LeAnn Rimes cover PR! And it's a good country cover version at that, IMO.

Herbie is also credited for having two versions of Watermelon Man by himself. The remix that was on the Headhunter album is the best one, IMO.
cool

According to Herbie, the arrangement concept on Head Hunters was Harvey Mason's with percussionist Bill Summers contributing the intro.

I'm a bit partial to the Mongo Santamaria version (that's the 1st one I heard) as the Latin vibe just works.

Just recently acquired Herbie's debut as a leader...

...Takin' Off which includes the original composition (along with an alternate take). Great band too.
