Songs with two DEFINITIVE versions by different artists

I'm talking the kind where both versions could be held up as the ultimate version of the song, even if (or perhaps because of) different styles.

Like Bob Marley and Eric Clapton's versions of I Shot The Sherriff.

What others are there?

I'm thinking Sinead and Prince - Nothing Compares 2 U.

I love both versions.

To Love Somebody.

Both the Bee Gees' original and Janis Joplin's live version are brilliant, imo.

Prince never recorded a definitive cover, and his own compositions were trumped when they were remade (Chaka, Sinead, etc)

I guess Rumors & Jealousy by Timex Social Club & Club Nouveau, respectively, counts too, then.

falloff You are wrong for that.

Anyway, this should be subtitled the Aretha Franklin/Isley Brothers thread. Those two were phenomenal at making songs their own. Between them:

Respect
Bridge Over Trouble Water
(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman
Until You Come Back to Me
I Say a Little Prayer
Summer Breeze
Lay Lady Lay
Brother, Brother
Love the One You're With
Hello It's Me

A few others:
I Heard It Through the Grapevine
Twist and Shout
(At Your Best) You Are Love
Venus
The Power
In the Still of the Night
Love Changes
Killing Me Softly With His Song

I assume standards don't count.

Gladys covered it right after Sheena did. I think it was '83.
