i was excited to see the WHO back in 89-90 i think ... in philly ....
i have to admit ... i was very disappointed ... i like some of P townsends stuff ... in general ... i really WANT to like them ... but i just never "got" the WHO .... and most of their songs/albums just seem boring ... i liken it to the Rolling Stones ... they came here recently and i checked em out .... never really liked Mick and Co ... but ... THEY WERE SLAMMIN ... i am not a big huge fan obviously ... but after seein a few minutes ... i was like .. wow ... these guys put on a show .... the stage ... the sound ... awesome ... "miss you " was my highlight ....

An incredible band, even though only half of them are still standing. The new album, Endless Wire, while not instantly accessible, is a serious grower that I'm starting to love the moreI listen to it. Highly recommended. Just dopn't expect it to hit you like Quadrophenia did. It'll seep in gradually, by osmosis. So immerse yourself a dozen times. After that you'll be humming those tunes. It's substantially better than It's Hard or Face Dances, and it hangs together better than Who Are You. I saw The who a couple of weeks ago at the London Roundhouse. Small venue (2000 people), but they were absolutely sensational. I've seen them eighteen times since 1980, and the Roundhouse gig was close to the best I've ever see them. Yup, they were that good, even without Entwistle. [Edited 11/6/06 9:43am] There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. I saw The Stones twice on their current tour, and they were good both nights, but I've seen them much better over the last twenty plus years. The bootlegs from this tour are pretty average - even on the best nights. I think this may well have been a tour too far, what with all four members being ill - Charlie with his throat cancer (recovered), Ronnie with his booze relapses (he's suffered three deaths in his family this year), Keith's head injury and Mick's throat problems. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
