I used to rock earrings like that almost daily in junior high and high school. I wore some the other day for like two hours, and had to take them out. They were hurting my ears too bad.

I disagree, Jody was rocking them first. Janet's thing was more about the key earings.

By the way, me and my sister used to rock those big ass Jody watlet earings!

Technically, neither one was first. I had a pair in early '86 and I remember going to downtown L.A. to buy them. I had a bunch of different sizes of these earrings. I was in modeling school at the time and hanging with quite a few fashion designers then and we were dressing like that in late '85 and '86. Janet and Jody were just emulating the style that was happening then. I do remember, Janet was rocking them first when her album Control came out. But Jody Watley was seen wearing them more, so it's understandable how people associate them with her more than Janet. But her album dropped a year after Janet's in '87.

I think we're talking about famous folks although I do feel you completely.

That's like the whole moonwalking thing with MJ. The kids on the street were doing before Mj had someone teach him how to do it but if you said, who was the first to moonwalk....some would say MJ. shrug

Moonwalking actually became popular in the 70s with a group called "The Lockers". Damn, am I that old? Anywho, they were the ones who did all the poplocking, acrobatics and moonwalking. They were around the early and middle 70s, you could see them on Soul Train and other variety shows of the period. It sort of died down during the disco era, but made a comeback in the late 70s and early 80s in New York with hip hop which can be seen on the movie Flash Dance. When Michael Jackson's Beat It came out, he became known for it mainly. But many of Michael Jackson's moves were reminiscent of "The Lockers" from the 70s.

Oh hell yeah, those with a pair of "come f#@k me" pumps (those pointy-toed pumps from the 40s and 50s we used to buy at the thrift store). Sadly, you can't get those anymore without paying through the nose.

Omg! That is my style!! My favorite earings of all time. And big, curly eighties hair always makes a nice accessory to that too. To me that look is the hottest. I call it..."urban- new york- eighties -girl" look.
