i really like the 3 main singles, plus It's No Game (part 2, NOT part 1) and a couple of others, but the rest of it either leaves me cold or i dislike. Yeah, I hear you. Up The Hill Backwards misses the mark for me and there's a couple on the second half I really don't care for, but I still consider it a album.

Love the production, the guitar work, the bass... Lyrically he was in great form too - I've always had a thing for the opening lines of Up The Hill Backwards: "The vacuum created by the arrival of freedom, And the possibilities it seems to offer" Great stuff. Off to give it a spin now! It's an irresistible album! "...strung out in heaven's high...hitting an all-time low..." Definitely one of my faves.

Shame he has no albums that are lame, then.

No, David! It was about Scary Monsters and Super Creeps like Mike Jackson.

Anybody else really curious about the songs he'll do at that gig he's doing in a couple of days? And who's in his band?

My guess is that he'll probably do mostly new songs and throw in a couple of classics.

it's good, but I think it's a bit overrated in that
the fucking annoying tagline 'his best since scary Monsters' isn't fair 2..1.Outside ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...

I'd love to hear him doin' some classics he hasn't played for ages like "Space Oddity", "Aladdin Sane" or "Rock 'N' Roll Suicide"!

I saw this thread the other day, Cheek. You've picked a cracker!
I think this was the second Bowie album I bought, after 'Black Tie, White Noise'. 'Scary Monsters...' is one of those albums I *never* tire of. Ever. It launches a complete assault on you - in all the right places. Bowie really was on a roll with this one and there's still nothing like it. It constantly fights for the position of my favourite Bowie album. When you look at the rest of his 80's output, it's just sad when you think how much promise this album gave... But a wonderful, wonderful album. Genius.

I think there's only one song I like on the second half. But I appreciate I'm in the minority, most folk consider it his best work of the 90s. I much prefer Hours.
