Robbie Williams' Rudebox: My Quick Review

Robbie is gonna end his career as pop singer with this. Critics will love to massacrate this album...but it better that "Intensive Care". Here's my quick review.

1. "Rudebox" - produced by Soul Mekanik

7/10 Song is nice...not radio friendly. A grower!

2. "Viva Life on Mars" - produced by Soul Mekanik

7/10 The most traditional Robbie song of the album...country vibe to it!

3. "Lovelight" (Lewis Taylor cover) - produced by Mark Ronson

10/10 One of my favorite tracks of the album. Superb song. Never heard the original...Listen and abuse it! Imagine George Michael doing this?

4. "Bongo Bong/Je Ne T'Aime Plus" - (Manu Chao cover) produced by Mark Ronson

Whatever/10 I love Manu Chao. I, either love or hate it! Can't make my mind on this one. Still one the tracks I played the most.

5. "She's Madonna" - produced by Pet Shop Boys

10/10 Another highlight. Clever lyrics. With a good video, this song will be massive. Shame the PSB prodution is not vibratant

6. "Keep On" - produced by Mark Ronson

9/10 Nice...

7. "Good Doctor" - produced by Mark Ronson

6/10 Robbie tell us about his love for pills...filler!

8. "The Actor" - produced by Brandon Christy and Craig Russo

10/10 Genius song. Smart lyrics...A big shout out to Madonna Ritchie and other "talented" actors/actresses!

9. "Never Touch That Switch" - produced by Soul Mekanik

7/10 Average

10. "Louise" (Human League cover)- produced by William Orbit

1/10 No...never cover Human League!!!!!

11. "We're the Pet Shop Boys" (My Robot Friend cover) - Produced by Pet Shop Boys

10/10 Brilliant! Great production by the PSB

12. "Burslem Normals" – produced by Soul Mekanik

2/10 Lame...

13. "Kiss Me" (Stephen Duffy cover) - produced by Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee

9/10 Love it

14. "The 80s" – produced by Jerry Meehan

8/10 Robbie talks about his life...in the 80's...when he lost his virginity and being called a poof...

15. "The 90s" - produced by Jerry Meehan

6/10 Robbie continues talking about life...

16. "Summertime" - produced by William Orbit

5/10 Lame...filler

17. "Dickhead" – produced by Jerry Meehan

1/10 Lame...wait...desnecessary song...a bonus song...never saying dickhead was so...lame!

Conclusion: A mixed blessing...William Orbit failed to deliver!

The only album I've liked all the way through was The Ego Has Landed, which is a comp of his first two cds. There were some good songs on Trippin' or whatever that one was called.

Robbie Williams is a joke, I can't believe so many people pay to watch his comedy song and dance act in stadiums.

It's funny that Robbie's ex boyband Take That have just got back together, and it looks like Robbie's career might (I hope) go down in the gutter where it should have stayed.

Robbie Williams once said that he wanted to punch Prince, this is a fact. Prince and Robbie were both appearing on a re-vamped edition of the 1980's music programme The Tube in 1999, and Prince played longer than he was supposed to and this pissed Robbie off, because Robbie would like to think he's a music god like Prince.

Why would the PSB do this song again?
They've already done a cover of it not too long ago.

Somewhere Guy Chambers is laughing his arse off.

That having been said, I don't care how lame his music gets. I'd still tap it like a keg at a frat house. lick

The Madonna song is just a lame retread of Dreaming of the Queen.

in what respect? not in the lyrics right? cause dreaming of the queen
is really about the queen and not about madonna.

it's about every UK-ers fantasy that the actual queen might come to
their house and ask for a cup of tea, lol. anyway, that's what Neil
said in a few interviews around the time of "Very".

it's a nice enough album though. the thing that irks me about it
is that every single song contains at least 1 or 2 lines that are
lifted out of other songs.

he takes lines from so many 80s and 90s songs that you constantly
get distracted thinking "eh, what song is that line from again?".

still a new robbie album is always guaranteed for a bit of a laugh
and a couple of good tunes.

i won't be playing it anymore in three weeks, i'm sure. but three
or four songs from it might go into my perpetual playlist indeed.

I'm actually a big fan of Williams, but i was so scared how that album is going to turn out (as Darren Hayes'"new direction" failure came 2 mind), untill i heard it:

1. "Rudebox" - 5/5

2. "Viva Life on Mars" - 4/5

3. "Lovelight" - 3.5/5

4. "Bongo Bong/Je Ne T'Aime Plus" - Doesn't compare to the wicked original version, but the 2nd half addition is actually workin out, 2/5

5. "She's Madonna" - 5/5

6. "Keep On" - 3/5

7. "Good Doctor" - 5/5

8. "The Actor" - 5/5 (But Madonna,, AND M.Streep?)

9. "Never Touch That Switch" 10/5

10. "Louise" 5/5

11. "We're the Pet Shop Boys" 3/5 (Probably a grower)

12. "Burslem Normals" - 2.5/5

13. "Kiss Me" - 2/5

14. "The 80s" – 2/5 (so far)

15. "The 90s" - 2/5 (so far)

16. "Summertime" - 5/5 for the lyrics

17. "Dickhead" - 10/5 for the laugh it gives me everytime

I'm actually quite impressed

Strangely this album is still surviving on my mp3 player.

One of it's problems is that it has 2 many tracks...I would cut the Jerry Meehan and William Orbit songs from it!

By the way Mark Ronson showed us, again, that he's a great producer!

Robbie Williams is a piss-poor karaoke singer that got lucky. The turgid stodge that he's turned out since Guy Chambers left him has exposed that truth horribly.

He has about as much talent as a Butlins red coat (UK orgers will know what I mean !).

I don't understand all the hating on Robbie Williams. Compared with all the crap out there today I think he has had some very decent output.

I've been a Robbie fan since I picked up "The Ego Has landed" but I'm still surprised how much I'm enjoying this one. In fact, right now I'm going to go so far as to say this is his best since "Sing When You're Winning" from 2000 or so.

Fave tracks are Lovelight, Bongo Bong, She's Madonna, The Actor, Never Touch That Switch... I'm currently undecided on We're The Pet Shop Boys and Summertime. The only songs I'm purposely skipping are Viva Life On Mars and Louise (and Dickhead).
