Janets whole album has decent songs through out the album that you could listen to and enjoy... even thought she might not have ONe major hit song on her album... like mariahs song "we belong together"... i would say janets album as a whole sounds better than mariahs album... im sorry but those boring slow songs mariah sings on her new album did not impress me... they were typical.. and had no real good music behind them... mariah was just lucky because she happened to have two hit songs off her album.. unlike janet... and i know if janet had..had two major hit songs of her album... it would have sold so much more honestly mariah just has 3 or 4 strong songs and the rest are just weak and typical.. janets album throught out has pretty decent songs... that are above mediocre... but to be fair... i would NEVER SAY mariahs album is better than janets... or Janets album is better than mariahs... but I will say I could NOT listen to every song on mariahs album... but i could for janet... and Mariah's new album reminds me of Charm bracelet... some of the same songs she had on charm bracelet... she used them on her new album... but did anyone say the album charmbracele album sounds great.... NOOOOOoooo... so now that the media... says mariahs new album and new songs sound great... NOW everyone wants to agree.. and follow along... even though the charmbracelet album had basically the same songs as The IOM... but without 2 major hits.... so im just thinking that people are being fake... and they are just followers.. i dont care if the media wants to give an album bad review... if i like it.. then im going to buy it... because the media... only supports artist that are popular.. and that they Like... I dislike both singers, but compared to Mariah Carey, Janet's dry, fetid wispy voice, can't hold a candle. I won't deny that I actually like a few Janet songs, but this is always attributed to good music production or song writing, none of which you can really attribute to her, than Janet's actual voice.
Janet albums are soley the result of whether her producer(s) are performing well. Mariah's successes and failures are attributed strictly to Mariah. At best 20 YO is the poor man's Mimi. | |

See, I preferred DJ over 20 Y.O. for no other reason than I liked it more, period. I even prefer the DJ era over this one because with all its drama, at least there were more Janet performances with a slight bit of variation and a sort of mini-tour. To me Janet really worked at promoting DJ even though some would argue that she did a lot with 20 Y. O. With 20 Y. O., the promotion was more about photoshoots than actually performing. Then what frustrates me, Janet has spent so much time promoting herself and not her music, but some in the media ask her about certain situations, she says to stick with the music. The promotion of this era hasn't been about the music all along, so what does she expect? I really think that Janet in a very subtle way is trying to distance herself from her music. To me, she's trying to make a transition to probably acting. So it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a new cd for awhile--or even for a very long time--if she can successfully make the transition. But it's not the fans or former fans who are in control of that. Janet is in control, right? And it's no big deal if a lot of people don't connect with 20 Y. O. DAmita jo... sounded like some bad hip hop... and I hate kanye west and his song on the album.... although i didnt really like DAmita jo.. there were atleast 5 or 6 songs on the album that I enjoyed... 20 Y.O is a celebration of her career... and she went back to her old formula... and her fans are still complaining.... what else can she do... her songs on the new album actually sound like songs from the 90's.... early to late 90's.... and songs from the janet album and velvet rope... and even two songs from RN... so what can janet do... I would be a million if the media supported janet 100% then this album would be selling and everyone would say how much they loved it... and in response to some who said they bought CB... that album had basically the same songs on mariahs new album... IM talking about the filler songs... the slow boring sound sounds... but Mariahs new album TIOM has two Major hit songs.. which makes her new album more interesting then Charm bracelet... but those filler songs are basically the same.... |

YOU listend to it ONCE... so you dont even remember one song.... just like how i listen to mariahs new album 5 or 6 times... but i cant remember any of her boring songs except for we belong together, shake it off, and its like that, and two other songs... but other than that.... HEr i dont remember the boring songs off the album.. because they are just as boring as the fillers in the Charmbracelet album... her song Circle... sounds like slow boring Rnb crap.. that she copied off of luther vandross... and the one she made with the rapper.. nelly or i cant remember... but it sounded like something off of charmbracelet... just listen to CB and then TIOM.. then you will see what i mean.. how the filler songs are basically the same... and this topic is basically somone's OPINION... so you cant tell me to face or accept anything.. You weren't a fan of Janet's last era, and I'm not a fan of this one. So what? Who cares? I'm sure Janet isn't losing any sleep over it. As as far 20 Y. O., I'm OK with it-- I don't hate it. After a listen or two, it bores me. It's just not a cd that I play over and over again. I'm just not hugely excited about it. That said, I don't think Janet is talentless either. I still don't understand how someone can't grasp the concept of personal taste, and how something that sounds vaguely similar to something else isn't necessarily a good thing. It's like all the old Soul artists that re-record their work to put on other labels for cheap. Same songs, crap versions, crap music, almost unlistenable. | |

Sheesh, I shouldnt be surprised that people are already putting DJ and 20 YO against each other.
Here's my opinion: Damita Jo was alright, but nothing great. Really, what saved the album from being bad was the fact that it had at least a couple of songs that ranged from decent(Sexhibition, Strawberry Bounce, even Just A Little While) to great (All Nite, R&B Junkie, Slolove). I think 20 YO is a better CD. Some songs are unimpressive, but they're not particularly bad. And there are several songs that reek of classic Janet(So Excited, With U, Daybreak, Enjoy). That said, with the way the CD was described prior to release, I did expect a bit better. Also, they made a mistake with the first single, 'Call On Me'. Only reason that even became a minor hit was because it had Nelly on it. As for saying that 20 YO is better than TEOM, doubt it. There may be some filler, but when the tracks were great, they pretty much went above and beyond. | |
