Oh come on... we all know she has absolutely no musical talent...

i think she has a good sense of rhythm. nothing to write home about, but more than your average schmoe. i also think she's blessed with great stage presence, which is something about 75% of all talented musicians lack.

i think she's more of an entertainer than a musician, and i never thought that was any great secret. shrug

meryl streep may not know how to shred a guitar, but she's still insanely talented.

I think it's the fact that she's a strong woman. She does what she wants to and usually succeeds. I've been a fans since day one. She was iconic from her very first album. Yeah, she may not sing very well but she sure is an entertainer.

This is WHY...

SHe had had a gayish following as her music got played in gay clubs and what not, but still a majority of her fan base was the teeny bopper girl crowd. (Madonna thru True Blue). Around the time when many of us were becoming who we are and learning about our sexuaity during the AIDS crisis, Madonna was one of the few voices for our generation and for us. Around the Like a Prayer album, she became very vocal for us and our "cause" (AIDS). Speaking out about it and putting a message about it in her album liner notes.

SHe furthered her support of the gay community as evidenced by Truth or Dare, when we got a glimpse into her life and the people she surrounded herself with...mostly gay men. Now even though we were in a day and age, where the word "gay" was just starting to be a normal everyday thing, it was still considered taboo and the AIDS thing had everyone still scared. I think Madonna, in her own way, gave us a good light to shine under. She accepted us, embraced us even. She even explored her own sexuality (and bisexuality) in front of us.

I think what happened then, was that she shed her teeny bopper image and "leaned" her music in our direction, as at that time she was being played in Gay Clubs ALOT. Vogue is another song in which the gay community embraced her as it was primarilly inspired by Vogue dancers, who were gay. I think the final card she played that would forever connect her to the gay community was the Girlie Show, which had themes of Gay Love (or the villifying of) and AIDS as evidenced by the songs of "The Beast Within" and her Clown "symbology". She had made it widely known that one of her closest friends had died of AIDS.

She embraced us and we embraced her back. Most of her music does well on the Dance Charts and I think it's the gay clubs that really help her music out a lot these days. She is still a champion for us in many ways. She respects and acknowledges her fan base that is gay...even so much as she has said about her recent album was for us. I can't think of any other celebrity that has been as vocal or accepting or engaging with the gay community as she has.

She's not trying to get us rights, Lobbying for marriage or anything, so what's the big deal? And her music's craptastic. So Supa, Miguel, Anx, one of my uncle gheys need to explain this to me...

Don't rope me in on this mess, just cuz I am the ghey does not mean I'm automatically a Madge fan. I have a few of her albums, sure, but they're just good pop albums to me.

Why do all you straight people like Kenny G. and Hootie & the Blowfish? See, doesn't feel too good, does it? lol

WHOOOOOAAAAA!!! Slow down pad'nah, I'm gay too, but I didn't grow up in the 80's like you older guys did so I can't grasp the whole "gay Madonna is God" mysticism shit. That's the only reason I asked.

well, you could be walrussexual and my point still stands - it's not entirely safe to assume any group of people can be defined by a unanymous love for any given thing. in fact, some people get a little annoyed by it. whistling

Her relevence today? SHe has not left the lime light and still comes out with fantastic records...her last one was great and very dance club friendly, which the gays like. It's Almost in the same vein as why we hang around waiting for Prince to drop the next one. Cuz we're the fans.

I can't answer as to why the young gays like her. Her appeal and ability to garner new fans is fascinating to say the least, as most of her counterpart (Prince) don't seem to be able to do that anymore.

I can say that Confessions was very dance friendly and if I were 15 and gay, I'd probably enjoy that record a lot. She also gets marketed to the gay community too. But still that doesn't explian how 15 yr old are turning on to her. Though if you are 15 and out, you are probably getting a hold of any gay mag,rag and bag you can get your hands on, and she has been heavily featured in many of those publications over the past year.

WHat are you talking about? Most 15 year olds don't have enough experience to have "good taste". I also never mentioned which gay publications they would be picking up. It doesn't matter if they picked up Out or Advocate or some rag in a gay store...she was in ALL of them. Don't make yourself out to be "better than the other gays" simply because you don't like Madonna.

If history is any indicator, Madonna will be headlining the news until she dies. You should just learn to live with it. Life could be worse.
