Faith Evans: Yay Or Nay (LPs Quality-Wise)

As much as i respect her as a superb vocalist, so far i have been nothing but disappointed with her releases because where she's coming from she could DEF do better than that.

So nay untill something masterful comes along the way

i do like Faith's voice, but i do agree with you that she is much more capable of what she puts out.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I have all of her albums I listen to them and get into them over time....I can agree with everyone so far on this thread she is capable of more.
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.
And I am

MaybI agree that her material ain't doing her a bit of justice,,,Chaka herself said that Faith would've been a massive soul singer(and I stress about choosing the term SOUL singer from an R&B singer) if she chose material that showcase her chops as opposed to the hard beats, samples and the whole PLASTIC shebang.

If you want to hear Faith @ her peak, I suggest you to pick up Faithfully.

You could hear her echoing Billie Holiday and Betty Carter here and there(in fact, she said that she listened to Lady & Betty alot while she recorded that album) even though she's from the Clark Sisters school.

I'll go with YAY,,,,coz I def can hear the promise of a "soul singer" in her voice, despite the crappy production.

Her debut is her best cd.
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

I vote yay because of the debut album myself. I been trying to tell some of the Faith-hater that her & Mary J. Blige were never the same to begin with.

And despite making money mostly as a songwriter with other artists of the mid 90's, most of the haters would still vote nay because of her ties with Biggie.

Yay. If she had some quality music, i could definitely be more into her. Debut CD is the best hand's down.

The 90s R&B (ie. hip-hop) production is holding her back, honestly.
