Any contenders for "Best of 2006" yet to be released? (NOT A THREAD ABOUT MUSIC ALREADY RELEASED THIS YEAR!!!) Ok, folks...it's almost time for us to start tabulating our favorite songs and albums of the year.
I'd love to jump the gun and start working away on my annual music geek tradition of compiling my 2006 best-of CD, but...is that brilliant piece of pop heaven going to be released the week before Christmas? Will the end of the year bring us another surprise treat like Kate Bush's "Aerial" last year? Or, well...is it pretty much a done deal till 2007 rolls around? Can my syntax in this post be any more askew? Please, list your contenders for strong year-end releases...if indeed there are any! [Edited 10/25/06 13:24pm] [Edited 10/26/06 3:33am]

actually this year looks like a done deal, a few things here and there in the DVD area (mcCartney,Styx,) But musically nothing is really coming that seems like it will be a year end steal, George Michael,Girls Aloud are definite buys but both are Hits with a few new songs, everything else has been moved to early 2007 (Mya,Amerie,Duran,a-Ha) "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

My top 5 are pretty much set. One album that could still crack it has already been released albeit in the U.K. only and that is Joan As Police Woman's 'Real Life'.
Maybe Nellie McKay's 'Pretty Little Head' (Oct 31st) could make an impact with me also. Her debut was my #1 album of 2004.

There have been two albums that I'd rate as being more-or-less masterpieces this year...
Scott Walker's The Drift Bob Dylan's Modern Times ...and I don't think there's anything coming up that will usurp them on my personal list. Now I haven't heard the new Hold Steady, Yo La Tengo or Decemberists yet, but those have to rate as very long shots to take the place of Dylan and Walker.

yeah, but people, i'm asking if there's anything coming out in the next two months that might be contenders (in your opinion) for possible best of 2006 material. it's speculative, i know, but i don't wanna get into the best stuff that's been released so far. i basically wanna get an idea as to if it's safe to start my best-of mania yet!

Nothing stands out for me. The last time I could easily rank my favorite albums of the year was 2002, when one of my favorite ablums of the decade, "Heathen", came out. NOw I'd really have to think about it. Probably Gnarls Barkley. I've listened to that all the way through several times with no complaints or skips. Second might be "Fundamental" by the Pet Shop Boys.

but those albums have already come out this year, right? Yeah....sorry. I'm not paying attention. Can't think of anything strong that is yet to come out. I looked even at the upcoming UK releases, which are a good indiction of just about anything coming out. Still can't find anything!

If they haven't come out yet, no one will have heard them, so no one will know if they're contenders for best of the year - surely!
That said I have high hopes for Damien Rice's new album "9", and Gwen Stefani's will be worth checking out. Also Sufjan Stevens is down for releasing a 5 disc "songs for Christmas" album that may ahve some interesting stuff on it. Apart from that, it looks to be a quiet November / December. Itll be all Greatest Hits and not much else i would imagine. Im mainly pissed because there hasn't been a Ryan Adams album this year. I know he released 3 albums last year, but i need an annual fix. Best of the year so far for me is: Razorlight - Razorlight 3121 - Prince Avalanche - Sufjan Stevens Ta Dah - The Scissor Sisters The Information - beck Modern Times - Bob That said I cant remember what is 2006, and what isnt.
