Oldies Song of the Day: "Wake Up Everybody" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes

Anybody remember this song from 1975? I've always loved this song, the lyrics and the catchy melody:

Wake Up Everybody

Wake up everybody no more sleepin in bed
No more backward thinkin time for thinkin ahead
The world has changed so very much
From what it used to be so
There is so much hatred war and poverty
Wake up all the teachers time to teach a new way
Maybe then they'll listen to whatcha have to say
Cause they're the ones who's coming up and the world is in their hands
When you teach the children teach em the very best you can.

Chorus:
The world won't get no better if we just let it be
The world won't get no better we gotta change it yeah, just you and me.

Wake up all the doctors make the ol' people well
They're the ones who suffer and who catch all the hell
But they don't have so very long before the Judgement Day
So won'tcha make them happy before they pass away.
Wake up all the builders time to build a new land
I know we can do it if we all lend a hand
The only thing we have to do is put it in our mind
Surely things will work out they do it every time.

one of my favorite parts is when Teddy Pendergrass and Harold Melvin exchange these lines, with Harold mimicking teddy:

need some help yeah! (need some help yeah!)

I love this song, along with "the Love I Lost"(My favourite Melvin and Blue Notes song) and "Don't leave me this way".

I wouldn't mind being transported back to the early 70s just to soak up all that wonderful music.

nod

Then again, it sounds even better now. People were probably taking some of it for granted back then.

Now see....we were just slow to respond! biggrin I remember that and all the others too. I just thought that Teddy's voice MADE the group sound its best and I still do, although I liked them even after he left. (There is a group out right now called "Harold Melvin's BlueNotes" that has the sound down! I think it was approved by Melvin before his death.)
I like so much of their music, especially "Be For Real" and "Bad Luck" but an awful lot of it was Teddy for me.

Have you heard the rest of the 'Wake Up Everybody' album? That thing is a classic!! Contains a smooth slow jam called "You Know How To Make Me Feel So Good",one of the sexiest songs that Gamble and Huff ever came up with!!
