2007 rock hall nominees

Its that time of year again shifty.gif. its time that the old folks in New York choose whos getting put into the rock hall.

the 2007 nominees are

1. R.E.M. One of the biggest bands in college radio. They formed in 1980 & put out their first single "radio free europe" in 1981. after beeing singed to a major label in the late 80's REM went on to become the best alternative rock band in the world

2. Van Halen. They started out in the late 70's. "You really got me" was the best song to do air gutaring to, soon after everyone was ripping it off. Van Halen has had like 3 lead singer in their long career. They are one of a handful of rock bands to have earned two diamond cert albums (the beatles, Led zepplin, Pink Floyd & Def Leppard). Dont forget to remove all the brown M&Ms from the bowl at a backstage concert. thats whyi asked rove about it hysterical.gif

3. Grand master Flash & the furious 5. Without rap music tupac & biggie would have still been alive, there would be no: run dmc, public enemy or NWA.

4. The stooges. the stooges were the back bone of Punk Rock. they came from Detriot & wrote the book about punk. Iggy pop was the biggest freak in the music indursty extra crazy that Ozzy osborne. Threy only lasted for a short time before break up in the 70's

5. Patti Smith. Patti was very much the first lady of rock & roll. She has had comparison to Janis joplin. Patti was a big influence on REM & U2. U2 would ot have got out of Larry kitche if it wasnt for patti smith, television, roxy music, the sex pistols

6. Chic. they were a group of the disco era. after disco had died they went on to produce pop artist

7. The Dave Clark Five. they were like the beatles rivals in the 60's. they had 20 top forty hit within a couple of years. they were part of the british invasion of america in the 60's

8. Joe tex. Like cat stevens he was a singer before converting to Islam. died in 1982 aged 49

9. The Ronettes. an rnb girl group trio. They were only together for a few years before breaking up. Id say they were like the supreames rivals

Many worth artist have been left out of the ballot for artist that have been snubbed year after year. 12 months ago i started a duran duran 4 rock hall petition 7 i sent in in July 2006. But they didnt get selected I also wrote a letter to the hall suporting the induction of Pat Bernatar & i guess they didnt give a snot.

what really blows my brains out is the voters have no respect for heavy Metal or progressive rock. every since the hall started in 1986 they have only put in 5 metal atcs (led zepplin, aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC & just recently black sabbath) & the only progressive rock band in the hall is Pink floyd as well as queen (they are progressive rock as well as metal)

The voters are people in the media such as: reports, journalists, producers, enginers etc. I reckon none of them no anything about THE NEW WAVE OF BRITISH HEAVY METAL. Judas priest, motorhead, def leppard, Diamondhead, iron Maiden have influenced todays metal acts & have done far better stuff than one hit wonder percy sledge or no singer miles davis or the Ronettes

Seriously if they ever put Samantha fox or Britney spears or Yoko Ono in the rock hall, im gunna blow my roof off angry3.gif

the future of the hall. my picks for future inductions

2008: Madonna, metallica, janet jackson,

2009: run dmc, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Slayer, anthrax

2010: red hot chilli peppers Megadeth

2011: LL COOL J, Soundgarden

2012: guns & roses, beastie boys

2013: kylie Mingoue, Public enemy, NWA

2014: Nirvana, Paula abdul, Enya

2015: Nine Inch Nails

Finally for Van Halen!! biggrin
& I hope that regarding rap they go down the line and stop at Biggie and Tupac
to prevent someone like Eminem getting in. I doubt that they would put Britney in. Christina has more of a chance than she does if she develops a strong catalog. But I have a question, who thinks that they will snub Mariah, Whitney, and Celine? I'm not sure if their music made much of an impact on the music industry. Patti Labelle still isn't in, (but her catalog as a whole isn't that great). It's weird that Chaka Kahn isn't in either though. I would like to see Herbie Hancock in as well.& I can't wait until the Guns get in and Beastie Boys!
cool

What are the qualifications of being in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

cause this stuff is all over the board.

Or is my definition of Rock/Roll too old school?

^You have to have made an impact on music. Your music has to have stayed relevant in the music industry for 25 years at the very least. & you submit two songs from your catalog when nominated.

What makes you think that they would induct Christina and not Whitney and Mariah? Both of those ladies opened the doors for for Chritina Aguilera. They will definately not snub Whitney and most likely not Mariah either.

I like Joan and she should be in, but I thought the runaways were kinda lame. Maybe there can be a wing in the hall dedicated to early female rockers like Suzi Quatro or Wendy O, if there already isn't...

the runaways were cool, and spawned a few successful solo careers. they also pioneered all-female rock groups who weren't just "sha la la be my baby boy" type stuff, which i think fueled a lot of what would come in the riot grrrl days and afterwards.

it's not about the albums, really...actually, i kindasorta agree with you in that ronnie spector should be in the RNRHOF moreso than the ronettes, but she won her greatest fame in that group, so technically, she should be nominated as a member of that group. but ronnie certainly deserves to be in there, because it's pretty common opinion that she has one of the most distinctive and influential rock voices in the history of popular music.

I think Hall&Oates and Duran Duran should be in there.

Also a few females who deserve it are Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks as a solo artist. She's already inducted as part of Fleetwood Mac.

Phil Spector is already in, so I kinda see the Ronettes nomination as being redundant. They were basically a cog (a big cog, mind you) in his singles machine, and I'm not really sure that warrants a separate nod for them.

For the dance music category. Not saying dance is not a respectable genre, but they don't even televise those awards. And grammys certainly don't resemble one's worth into the RRHOF.
I personally think both the grammys and RRHOF are a bit of a joke. There's so much bullshit politics behind it all when all it should be about is good music.

Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5 ARE hip hop.
Really, Hip hop has SAVED more lives than ended it.Biggie and Pac woulda got gunned down regardless of the music. If anything, it would have happened sooner.
My opinion is hip hop prolonged their lives; without it, Biggie woulda got shot up running drugs from Brooklyn to DC and VA. And Pac's big mouth woulda got him blasted years before it actually happened.
Annnnnywho, Grand Master Flash and 'em are not responsible for the state of hip hop today or that east coast/west coast shit that happened in the '90s. Their affect on the musical world is undeniable. It changed all music not just "black" music. There wouldn't be no damn Justin Timberlake, or Christina Aguilera, or Outkast or any of them. And really, my generation of music listeners would probably not be as into James Brown or Parliament or any of the musical pioneers of the 60's and 70s because we were exposed to it (mostly) when Dj's were sampling it.

If you goona lay that Biggie/Tupac stuff on them, you might as well hold the Stooges responsible for all the kids in Hollywood that ever got strung out on Heroine.

isnt it true that not all that can be inducted do just so they can spread out the acts over the years and not have too many biggies at the same time ?

like this year will be van halens year, so they wouldnt put kiss this year, although it wouldve made sense for kiss this year
and halen next, since halen doent reunite till next year and kiss is blowin up cause of the dvds.

The Hall really needs a shakeup, i mean the list of artists who Never were on the ballot or were on the ballot but didnt get enough votes is insane, here are a few to look at.

Heart
Hall and Oates
Styx
the Moody Blues
Kiss
Rick Springfield
Chicago!!!

Just to name a few, and one of the biggest crimes, John Mellencamp on the ballot 3 straight years and didnt get enough votes, beating him those years ZZtop, Percy Sledge(excuse me), and of course we cant forget great groups like the Dixie cups who already got in no problem. The hall seems to be more concerned with who they to be on the show then who they are inducting. Also dont be surprised if Van Halen doesnt get enough votes, also, who is going to be asked on stage, Sammy or Dave, i think Eddy is praying they dont get picked.
