Rick Springfield underrated as an artist and as a person Well this article is to bring a little Rick to everyone who may not know anything of Rick besides the 80's. Well to first start off with Rick, now 57, has been constantly touring since 1998 when he released his first solo cd since 1988's "Rock of Life", during that time off Rick basically was recovering from an ATV accident and battling depression and just the normal things of life and the success that he had from throught the 80's. Many will think thats where it started and that "Jessies Girl" was his first release, well it wasnt, it actually wasnt even his first hit. Ricks first chart appearance goes way back to 1968 with the band ZOOT, when they had some success in Australia where Rick is from. He was signed solo in 1971 and had his first American hit in 1972 with "SPeak to the SKy" a folky, spiritual song, a few more came throughout the 70's with some minor hits here and there and mostly good reviews, one from Rolling Stone calling him a Young Bowie. Then it all blew up in the 80's, including a string of 16 straight Top 40 hits from 1980-1985, and during that time period 4 stragiht Platnum plus albums, in chart terms Rick was right up there with 80's icons like Prince,Madonna,Michael, hall and oates.....
Then he stepped away, and then returned in 1998 as Rick approached 50 he decided to hit the road non stop, and he really has been touring non stop for over 8 years, with very minor breaks. During 1998-2006, he has released, the cds "KARMA,ALIVE,SHOCKDENIALANGERACCEPTANCE,The Day after Yesterday" all of these releases were also released to his loyal fans through his website, (the best one for a musician) all of them with Bonus discs, dvds, demos from all his work and all copies personally signed. This past week he released LIVE IN ROCKFORD dvd, and amazing ROCK concert (see its not dead) filled with some hits but alot of his new material which is amazing. My last part is about Rick the person, rick has shown his heart by helping this 11 year old girl who is battling with Brain Cancer, and is setting up to do a show just for her in her home town. What this showed me was how much Music and Artists have stepped away from "People", during the 80's everything was about giving and now it seems to be about "What i got", its good to see someone still cares about people on a one to one basis. http://www.rickspringfield.com  "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F | |

The funny thing is in 2004 when Rick released his CD "Shock Denial Anger Acceptance", which right now stands as one of one top cds of this decade, he charted which "Beautiful U", the second single from this cd, i believe it hit Top 30 on the AC charts, and the funnier thing was that it was Rockier than anything on the Rock charts at the time, which shows how the industry things of Artists, the fact that at the time Rick was 55 totally disqualified him from radio play in certain markets and of course no video play.
