Yeah, this used to be my favorite forum but most of the regulars are gone or don't post so the vibe isn't the same. I don't listen to most of the people mentioned here lately: Madonna, MJ, Janet, Justin so I just check in every now and then to see if there is anything that stands out.
I just wanna know why pictures of Janet are considered: Music, non-Prince?

With fams like the Audience, BlaqueKnight, Blackguitarist, PfunkJazz and others, there's a lot of intelligent discussion. In fact, a few people I know used to laugh when I told them about Prince.org - until they realized how much is covered, especially in the non-prince section. Now, they come here whenever they want the latest music news or just to see some intelligent posts.

or are you posting for "Substance" ? cause, frankly this is NOT the best site for having SERIOUS music discussions it's PRINCE.org Just curious.... Posting for popularity/threadcount is obviously not my goal. If that was the case, i'd start a daily Pop Star, or even better, Pop Star Gossip thread. And periodically, this is a place for "SERIOUS music discussions" (as it's a Music: Non-Prince forum). I've picked up quite a bit of information about artists and music I was not very familar with from folks here and just try and return the favor from time to time whether it garners massive threadcounts or not. I'm not maligning the fact that there are a large number of threads on those particular Pop artists being a fan of Pop music myself. It was simply an observation. There may be some that are concerned with attaining some kind of Message Board Messiah status. I'm not one. It's just about the discussion of interesting music for me. Just sayin'... tA Cool, so have I. Alot of you in this thread made me stop "lurking" & want to join in on the fun. but, I've noticed that's waaaay too easy to "Shock-Post" & I'm glad that there are posts on All topics & obscure artists. Okayplaye r back in the day used to have some serious discussions til it got outta hand. I started to see a change here at the "org" as well. I think that why ppl stopped posting as much. I want to live up to my "Screename" & NOT Hate on ppl so, instead of trashing Wack art...ummm...music I'm not very fond of, I just won't say anything at all. because what's cool for me...may not be cool for others. What I've always liked about this site is that the tastes and visitors themselves are quite a diverse bunch and it covers a good array of genres from punk to funk to rock to R&B to jazz etc. I'd like to know if any other sites cover such a wide ground. It's pretty light on the folk and classical genres though. I agree with all of that. Also, I know a few songs I could start a thread on but I'm afraid no one else has heard the songs. For instance, "She's Got To Be (A Dancer)" by Jerry Knight in 1981. . . You won't find this level of quality over at Housequake - believe me, I've tried... Trust me, I've been to other music forums, and the level of discussion on those forums compared this forum is not even close. A few years ago I was on a Mariah Carey fan forum, and the level of discourse ranged from either worshipping her as a goddess or declaring that she was Aphrodite herself, to totally calling her a talentless slut with mental problems. Even if you were a fan but acknowledged that not all of her work was spectacular, you would get seriously flamed by other posters. This was the same in the Madonna threads as well, and there was a serious flame war between fans of Madge and Mimi. This also happened in the Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera threads too, but the discourse was even more childish. And in the some of the hip-hop forums, you'd think that the east coast-west coast rivalry never ended. At least on this forum, you can be passionate about your love for a particular artist but still acknowledge that there is a world of music outside whatever your favorite artist sings. And the fact that this forum is part of a Prince fansite shows that the type of people who populate this forum are more passionate fans of music of all genres than the average person.

It seems like the trick here is just to call out the quality posters and they'll all be on your thread.
Next time choose a topic they can expand on and it will be a functioning thread.

Well, I've commented on this in a few different posts, regarding running threads that YOU feel a kinship for. That's always been my reason. First and foremost, it's about me. That's why I personalize it by naming my threads "Z Cult". Then second, it's my desire to share it with whoever wants to get with it and my take on it. That's all. I never think about "How many folks are going to post on this thread?" before I run it. I could careless. Really, to be honest, when I see that only 4 people had posted BUT over 300 took the time to read it, I prefer that more than anything. I may org someone to give their insight on what I'm talking about in thread, just to evoke a thought process that's coming from somewhere else then just me. But other than that, nah. Just do your thing, regardless. And also, I have found to ring true is that just because people don't post, doesn't meant that they didn't enjoy or relate to your thread. It's kind of easy to get hurt here and some people have shied away from it after that happens.
On General Discusson people don't seem to be as harsh with each other because they're talking about personal subjects. Because the discussion here isn't technically personal, it's about music, people are freer with opinions that can hurt. But music is very personal to us, and it represents greater social issues, and we take it personally when we're attacked because of it. My Legacy
