Best break up/post-break up song?

Life can b shitty, but thank God there is music 4 every occasion. So, 'favorite' break up / break up-blues song anyone?

4 me right now it's John Prine, All the best. sad
"It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

one of my faves cos it's so bitter is "I Am The Resurrection" by the Stone Roses...
"Don't waste your words, I don't need anything from you. I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do"

That's good for the beginning of the break-up

Towards the end, when it becomes a "healing-growing" experience, I really like "Thank You For Loving Me" by Sinead O'Connor...
"Thank you for breaking my heart, Thank you for tearing it apart, now I've a stronger heart, Thank you for breaking my heart." (the rest of the song is positive...

I take it all back, he's right..."Take A Bow" is the best.

My first real adult break-up happened when this song was everwhere. I worked in a grocery store at the time and they played it 3 times each shift on the shitty muzak station. Everytime it came on, I'd go into my office and just stare off into space and tear up. It was horribly pathetic. This lasted for a month. Then I got bitter and the other songs played in...

Take a bow is, obviously, one of the top songs. Thanx 4 reminding me.

I love "Take A Bow".It sounds so lush, sad and dramatic.I remember my mother kept borrowing my 'Bedtime Stories' CD because she absolutely loved this song...lol...

I not sure if it qualifies but Break Up To Make Up by The Stylistics stomps all others.

5 stars.

"Mr. Telephone Man" by New Edition...

"Mr. Telephone Man,
there's something wrong with my line,
when I dial my baby's number,
I get a 'click' everytime"

Just joking!

lol

No, really... the best break up song, or one of them anyway... "Three Times A Lady" by Lionel Richie (Commodores at the time)...

"Thanks for the times that you've given me,
the memories are all in my mind.
And now that we've come to the end of our rainbow,
there's something I must say out loud...
you're once, twice, three times a lady...
and I love you."

So sad. I know I'll think of more! whofarted

  • 'It Ain't Over Till It's Over' by Lenny Kravitz

  • 'Have You Seen Her' - Chi-lites (NOT the MC Hammer version, mind you.)

However, my number one vote goes to Billy Joel for 'And So It Goes' (lyrics are as follows:)

In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along

I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense

And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose

But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break

And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break

And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
I mean, like, where is the sun?
