Actually that was from the second album which flopped.
Her debut was the jump off, and Canadians know this song well: http://www.youtube.com/wa...pIj1M_OjS0

Well at least Alanis writes her own lyrics. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I actually really liked her first album from `91.. there's hiphop backbeats and samples to most of it.
ie. "Jealous" = Funky Drummer

I'm not a huge fan of Alanis, but I can say for sure that she was NEVER Canada's Britney. Alanis is a good songwriter and performer and she doesn't shake her ass and tits to get noticed. Britney can not sing a lick, can't write and only knows how to shake her ass and tits. There is no comparison really.

All u guys diss my joey lawrence, jeremy jordan etc... and this is waaaaay more formulaic and dated then those guys. The sudden urge to put the "hangin' "tough" snares was a bizarre idea on "too hot", and for the early 90's, it sounded dated then. I would like to try her albums though, But "too hot" is pretty bad, and i love pop from this era. Get some alyssa milano if u want some good female pop from the era.

Reminds me a lot of Paula Abdul. Her (Alanis) music definitely has that faux Jam and Lewis sound that was all the rage in the late '80s and early '90s. Guess you probably had to grow up with it to appreciate it. I certainly can't see myself listening to this now, but then again, I do spin 'Forever Your Girl' once every 2 or 3 years, and I remember loving that back in '89-90. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

"forever ur girl" is a damn good record from the era. This alanis stuff is really bad, but acceptable if u like pop from this time. Still, not even her vocals suit the music. Sheena easton "what comes narurally" is another example of how pop can be good from that era of production over voice over sound and effects/samples over melody.

Unfortunately u r wrong about britney. She has plenty of singing talent. You just don't get to hear it on her cds b/c they only let her sing the "I'm underage but sexy" 3 notes she's been recording on since baby one more time. I'm no big fan (other than Toxic) but I always thought it was a shame since I've heard her sing other songs on tv and had an impressive vocal range.

Britney has a a range of about 2 octaves, following short 1 octave to be considered a good singer.... Pop singers sing usually in a one octave range, females anyway... males generally are able to use more of their range IE Justin and his weak ass falsetto.. other than that, i agree, britney can sing I am a Rail Road, Track Abandoned

OMFG - I never knew that! Thanks so much for setting me straight. I'll have to run out and buy all her cd's now that I know she has plenty of singing talent.

But I wouldn't use range to categorize whether they're good or not. Good singing is more about conveying the emotions of a song than it is about showing off your range. Billie Holiday had a limited range, for example. Britney could have five octaves, but it wouldn't make her a good singer. My Legacy
