"They just embraced him, and that's the amazing thing about children," she says. "They don't ask questions. They've never once said, 'What is he doing here', or mentioned the difference in his skin color, or questioned his presence in our life. That is an amazing lesson that children do teach us." Well The kids are probably use to a lot of strangers coming and going. stop it!

I tend not to watch Oprah but I do have respect for her. She completely understands her position and uses her influence. I'm sure Madonna's folks where like, "We need to do Oprah!" I'm actually liking Tyra's show ALOT. She actually has some interesting topics. i think if you use your power to constantly talk about yourself, if you always find a way to throw yourself into the mix, its more of an abuse of power than a use of it. her ego is ridiculous. you know, bono has a hell of a lot of credibility and influence but i never, ever feel like he's tooting his own horn or bragging when he talks about things. he's very politically and socially engaged but he retains a level of humility when talking about issues. oprah could take a lesson. And yet Bono has USED Oprah as a stage to get his message out there. She serves a purpose. And still is different. Bono isn't a brand so to speak. There is something about Oprah's opinion that people value, so this is why she says "my". She knows that its going to mean something and point attention to an issue or product. I would agree that Oprah needs to learn some humility BUT I'm not going to dog her about having Madonna on or Obama.

Oh, locally they had a woman on the news talking about African/American trans-adoption. She has an agency here in Indy. She said that its a cultural issue. She stated that in many countries in Africa, parents will put their children in an orphange until they can get their finances together. Its their version of foster care. She said that most will not mind if another family cares for the child BUT they don't consider the child adopted. She advised Madonna to take the child back and apologize.
I thought it was an interesting viewpoint. I saw a part of the interview with Madonna and she is troubled by all of this. I was really moved just listening to her and just watching her face and listening to the quiver in her voice at times. I do think she was geniune.

I thought she was going to start crying at some point. She did seem kind of nervous. I definitely don't think she's doing this for a publicity stunt. She can basically go anywhere and do anything and create publicity for herself. She's not hurting for it.

I think this last confusion has attracted tons of people who hate Madonna's guts (which she mainly asked for) to use this drama as a stage to lay all their hatred on, which is pathetic.
I, for one, cannot stand Madonna as a person whatsoever, but i wouldn't use this issue as an outlet for my dislike for her. It is a humanitarian issue we're dealing with here, YES she could've chosen this as a way to prove to the public she's changed as a person BUT whether we like that or not we NEED to realise this is all involving a poor little baby who's got no hand at all in all this drama, and whose only crime is that he's being adopted by Madonna whom we don't all like. How about looking at the upside of this situation and realise how this little boy has been given an amazing chance of good life, an education and a future that will help him stand on steady ground and therefore pass the good on and help his own family and people back in Africa?

I haven't been following all this drama until the last few days, but I admit when I first heard about it the thought that she was biting off of Angelina did cross my mind. So Madonna has been spending time in Africa, making a documentary, doing charity work? Interesting that I've never heard anything about that ever. I'm not a huge fan of Angelina, but I knew she had been in Cambodia several years ago (yes, I know Cambodia is not in Africa) and was a UNICEF(?) ambassador. I usually know when Madonna is on tour or she has an album out, and Africa/the AIDS crisis is a cause that I'm very concerned with so I'm surprised I never heard anything about Madonna in Africa. Plus it seems kinda odd that the press never once talked about Madonna's African charity work condsidering they seem to follow her every move. And honestly, I would have thought Madonna would go for a South America baby/orphan considering her interest that culture. I don't mean anything bad by that last comment, so please don't interpret it as racist. I'm just thinking back to Bedtime Stories and Lolo's dad, Evita, etc. She always seems more into Latin/Hispanic culture than African culture imo. And if people are respond by saying she probably didn't care about the baby's race/ethnicity then why didn't she adopt a British or American baby? I'm sure there are plenty of babies in those countries that need good homes too. . [Edited 10/26/06 18:32pm]

Rasising Mawali was part of the Live To Performance on the Confessions Tour. Madonna has also donated major major major money to HIV/AIDS long before Angelina was ever known to the public. She is also worked wtih Live Aid Live 8 and many other charities. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I know just cause I don't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It makes complete sense that she has donated major $$$ to HIV/AIDS in relation to the gay community (which I'm guessing is what engendered her involvement); I just never pegged her as being interested in the AIDS crisis in Africa. It's all good, the more people who get involved and try to help the better as far as I'm concerned.
