Most of you don't know her or her work, but she really leaps above the average pop singer/composer. Pure beauty. This girl is a true artist. Shame western pop stars don't have the courage she has...and the talent. I LOVE Utada, but I really prefer to hear her sing in Japanese personally and Keep Tryin has got to be one of the perkiest and catchy songs ever! But yeah, Ultra Blue is a great album Hikki is great. (Sopething that the resident musical snobs of prince.org will never understant!) I also love Deep River! It's a masterpiece! Even Exodus is better than anything that radio plays today! (You Make Me Want to Be a Man, Animato and Exodus '04 are excelent!) I'm also a sucker for her early stuff like First love! You are always gonna be my love Itsu ka dare ka to mata koi ni ochite mo I'll remember to love You taught me how You are always gonna be the one Ima wa mada kanashii love song Atarashii uta utaeru made http://www.youtube.com/wa...VTIRDeEhHY actually my first Hikki song was SAKURA drops! --> http://www.youtube.com/wa...JLW8P4Ui08 [Edited 10/25/06 2:16am]

Not as good as '04 or '05, IMO.
New Releases in '06 I bought: Morrissey - Ringleader of the Tormentors Prince - 3121 Pink - I'm Not Dead Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam Audioslave - Revelations AFI - Decemberunderground Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/Lovesounds John Mayer - Continuum Thom Yorke - The Eraser Van Hunt - On the Jungle Floor Janet - 20 Y.O. Counting Crows - New Amsterdam Beck - The Information Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers Nelly Furatdo - Loose Tool - 10,000 Days Pet Shop Boys - Fundamental Flaming Lips - At War With the Mystics Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not out of that list, only Pearl Jam's album really got continued heavy rotation throughout the year. Most of the others had a few standout tracks (Pink, Thom Yorke, Morrissey, JT), got a few spins and then forgotten (Audioslave, AFI, Janet), were sold back almost as soon as I bought 'em (Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Tool), or unwrapped, didn't catch my ear and sat on the shelf (Counting Crows, John Mayer, Beck, Van Hunt). One of the worst things about '06 was that while quite a few artists I liked released music, most of it was subpar. Before I heard the music, albums by Janet, Prince, Thom Yorke, PSB, and Tool all seemed like they would really make this a decent year. Unfortunately, they all disappointed to one degree or another. Janet, Prince, and PSB all promised "returns to form", and instead all continued in their creative downturns. Maybe I just buy too many CDs, and listen too much to the hype. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Well this year sucks in mainstream music as pretty much so in this decade other than music from 2003 and 2004.
Let's hope to see some improvement in 2007 or I am definately be seeking new underground music for good. But the only new albums that I digging this year are Prince 3121, Teena Marie, Xzbit, and damn I can't think of anyone else more.... I haven't heard the Janet album yet but I heard so many negative things about it but so far the songs that I listened to from that album "Call Me" and "So Excited" are likalble though.

I haven´t followed much this year, but what I happened to hear in most cases sucked big time. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

This is how I feel generally. I stopped caring about pop radio a long time ago, so I discover music at my own pace. My favorite "new" music of the past year is the Kinks! Between deepening my gypsy quest, learning to improvise , seeing Madonna live, discovering Nirvana and having a fellow orger gift me a huge swath of Tori bee-sides, I'm set for 2006!

... There were a few for me, so far: Quintessence - 5am Donald Fagen - Morph The Cat Level 42 - Retroglide Amp Fiddler - Afro Strut Joi - Tennessee Slim Is The Bomb Now if I could also include 'unofficial' releases that kinda "slipped out": Q-Tip - Open/ Live at the Renaissance Bilal - Love For Sale ... I love[d] it.
Went to so many good concerts this year. And discovered a lot of great acts. This was a good year for music. Some of my favorite songs and albums of this decade came out in the last several months. Most notably The Presets' "Beams" which is now amongst my all-time favorite debut albums. I'm thinking about seeing them live a 5th time when they come back to NYC near Halloween.
