well don't know about that. I mean I really didn't listen to the radio this year at all. but then again i didn't listen to it last year neither. confused I think it's been an okay year, but then again Jay-Z hasn't released his album yet. I'll have to hit this topic back up in Decemeber for an honest answer.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Can't tell, really.

I haven't followed everything that came out this year(other than Prince's new album which is a JUNK masterpiece).

Funny story for ya. After a rap show this weekend the DJ put on some 1988 Bobby Brown, and the people old enough to remember were busting out some crazy hype moves of the day. Me and a friend were doin the Kid N Play.

But damn we were tired out after like 2 records... can't burn calories these days just noddin' ya head to these midtempo tracks.

Thought of you vainandy. smile

Until now only one album that got my total adoration. It was Utada Hikaru's ULTRA BLUE.

Most of you don't know her or her work, but she really leaps above the average pop singer/composer. Pure beauty. This girl is a true artist. Shame western pop stars don't have the courage she has...and the talent.

another highlight of this year was "A Piano" from Tori.

It was been a very weak year! confused

Another highlight was Siobhan Fahey's The MGA sessions. Dark, gothic ballads with a depressive flavour.

There really havent been many strong albums this year at all, alot of artists that were coming out in 2006 moved to 2007 because the year was so bad. This has to be one of the first years where its actually tough to make a TOP 10 favorite cd's, usually its tough to narrow it, this year i cant fill it.

Some of my favorites so far , Lindsey Buckingham, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, Elton John, Paulina Rubio

A few things still coming this year but not many, George Michael,Girls Aloud (but both of them are Hits collections, with new tracks also, so not fair to include)

On the RB side, pretty much anything i am looking forward to is out Jan-Feb 2007 which is Mya and then Amerie. Not looking forward to this Jay Z, i heard two songs and its nothing new, hes becoming Puffy.

Yes, it has.

I'm happy with 5 releases minimum, which is the most ever happened to me in the 00's.

John Mayer's Continuum
Evolution of Robin Thicke
Robbie Williams' Rudebox
Tori Amos's Boxset
Mimi's Rerelease

Special mentions of:

Lady-T's Sapphire
Brand New Heavies's LP
Sheryl Crow's Wildflower
Prince's 3121
Nelly Furtado's Loose
Beck's Information
Jamiroquai's Dynamite (not sure if late 05 or early 06)

Each of those got a bunch of very good songs too

Need to check out Mars Volta, but:

Van Hunt -- On The Jungle Floor
Beck -- The Information
Corrine Bailey Rae -- Corrine Bailey Rae
Gnarls Barkley -- St. Elsewhere
J. Dilla (RIP) -- Donuts and The Shining
Various Artists -- Chrome Children
Donald Fagen -- Morph The Cat
Ghostface -- Fishscale
The Roots -- Game Theory

There are other songs I've dug throughout the year, "Tell Me Where To Go" by E-40, "Black Sweat," Madvillain's "Monkey Suite," etc.

This has been a versatile year for music, but I think the 2 stories of the year thus far are 1) hip-hop's radio dominance and artistic stagnation and 2) Gnarls Barkley.

Exactly. The only time I go to a club these days is when I'm horny and go out looking to get lucky. If someone asks me to dance, I'm usually on the dance floor swaying from side to side and "going through the motions" like a bored hooker smoking a cigarette and yawning while getting fucked. On the rare occasion that they do play a jam, I'm worn out afterwards because I've been out of practice. lol

I used to go to dance, have a good time, and if I got lucky, that was fine but if I didn't, at least I had an enjoyeable evening. Nowadays, if I go home alone, I'm pissed as hell because I see the money spent in the club as money wasted. lol

I think so, first of all, there`s Prince...

But Natalie Cole is responsible for making this year a good musical year!!

So far, 2006 has also given us new albums from Kim Wilde, Randy Crawford, Janet Jackson, Miki Howard, Teena Marie, Oleta Adams, two new Diana Ross albums and two from Gladys Knight. By the end of the year, we`ll have new music from Cat Stevens, Dionne Warwick and Patti Austin.

I heard her a few weeks ago live in concert on "The Tom Joyner Morning Show". She sounded absolutely great, even when she did songs and said "this song is from my new album". Of course that was live and she had a live band behind her. Does the album have real drums and bass like in concert or is it those weak drum machines?

3121 was enjoyable in parts, but there were far better albums out there this year.

Outstanding year in my eyes – two stone-cold classic, perhaps destined for immortality-type albums, and a healthy smattering of good-to-great ones to be found.

Classic albums:

Bob Dylan – Modern Times
Scott Walker – The Drift

Great Albums:

Bonnie Prince Billy – The Letting Go
Pernice Brothers – Live a Little

Pretty Good Albums:

The Handsome Family – The Last Days of Wonder
Lambchop – Damaged
Donald Fagen – Morph the Cat
Divine Comedy – Victory for the Comic Muse
Built to Spill – You in Reverse

Disappointments:

Pet Shop Boys – Fundamental – not truly awful, but the latest in a series of drab, mediocre albums.
The Mountain Goats – Get Lonely – where did the melodies go?
Neko Case – Fox Confessor Brings the Flood – everybody else seemed to love this, but I thought it was too dreary and too low-key to be really engaging.

I’ve yet to hear the Decemberists and Yo La Tengo records, both of which are rumored to be quite good.

Deadsy finally released 'Phantasmagore' this year so 2006 can't be terrible.

I bought these near perfect albums this year:

Goldfrapp - Supernature
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood
The Pipettes - We Are The Pipettes
Regina Spektor - Begin To Hope

I really want to hear the Joan As Policewoman album. That could be a 2006 top five entry also.

I've liked some of it

Prince--3121
Red Hot Chili Peppers--Stadium Arcadium
The Racaunteurs--Broken Boy Soldiers
Badly Drawn Boy--Born in the UK

looking forward to hearing Beck & Dylan's new cds

but none of that music really sums up 2006, except to say that I'm more into tradition than any new trend right now
