1980'S NEW WAVE ACT APPRECIATION THREAD Although the makeup was bad and the videos weird, the songs were great.
Anyone else feeling Flock OF Seagulls "I Ran"? The music from some of these acts were short lived, but does anyone have memories of songs they listened to from some of the New Wave acts from the 1980's. Same for Falco "Rock me Amadeus". "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Their later albums, Quiet Life, Gentlemen Take Polaroids, and Tin Drum were all masterpieces. Duran Duran clearly idolized them. Also hugely influential was the last Ultravox album with the original singer, Systems Of Romance. Gary Numan was a big fan of that one. While David Sylvian and John Foxx both produced excellent solo work, I always felt they left their respective bands too soon. I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing !!!!! I think they came right after New Wave. They began kind of new romantic (and sort of returned to it with "Behavoir"). If they started out New Wave, they've certaintly grown. They are definately dance pop.

I've been getting into early Depeche Mode alot lately. I didn't know that one of the members of Erasure was originally in Depeche Mode. Their first album, Speak & Spell was actually pretty good.
Same with Flock of Seagulls, though alot of their songs sound alike, kind of hooked on Wishing (I Had A Photograph Of You).

That, and "(Its not me) Talking". Its hard( damn near impossible) to sit through an entire lbum by A Flock of Seagulls, but they have some really good songs sprinkled in amongst the so-so stuff. [Edited 10/24/06 12:58pm] A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

I'll appreciate.
I'm too lazy to post my favorites though right now. Plus, a lot of cool stuff has already been mentioned. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I love that New Wave/English pop like Duran Duran Thompson Twins, Talking Heads, Gary Numan, Wham, Modern English, Devo, Adam Ant, Animotion, The Cars, Culture Club (like when Boy George used to be the bomb), Madness, too much to name.

I still love Tainted Love by Soft Cell. That and Rockin' the Casbah, Don't You Want Me, Look of Love, Never Say Never and White Wedding were some of the best songs from that year. Or the 80s for that matter.
