Because he's perfect for that part. I saw this last night. Thank you for posting this so I didn't have to start yet another Dreamgirls thread. lol I cannot wait to have that album in my hands. Jennifer's version of And I'm Telling You... is amazing!

Here's a better quality clip...

I wonder what Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jennifer Holliday and Lorretta Divine's take on this movie.

I already know that Ms.Ralph thinks that the role should've been portrayed by a "dark skinned girl" which Bey isn't.

But I wonder if they'll dig this flick. I myself, have mixed feelings about the whole thing,,,I hope they don't sansualize this movie and make it seem like a "Beyonce movie" as opposed to a group of an acting ensemble's movie.

I read about when Ross met Sheryl Lee Ralph, i think it was at a restaurant in New York, when Ross was about to walk by Ralph to be seated, Ralph got up and introduced herself, "Hi miss Ross, my name is Sheryl Lee...", "RALPH, yeah i know, you`re from that show" Ross said and walked away...

You know some people still don't think the "Dreamgirls" are based on the lives of the Supremes... I mean how obvious can you get; there is even suppose to be a boy-group in the film, called the Campbells who are based on the J5.

Is it just me or is B and Jennifer getting more attention than the other girl in the group in all of the promo articles...

They are and the "other girl" has won a Tony. I can understand it with Jennifer, because she can sing like hell. Beyonce, well, she's Beyonce. She's playing herself - a non-singing, attention seeking entertainer.

Fear not! My sources tell me it's a faithful adaptation.

i saw the trailer today at the theatre

Dreamgirls is my favorite musical of all time (saw it 3 times, once with Miss Holliday).... and i'm sorry to say based on the trailer, the music doesn't sound that exciting.

The "stars'" voices are very weak compared to the original. Eddi M sounded bad, Beyonce isn't up to the challenge, and even Jennifer Husdon-from wht you hear on the commercial--sounded better on AI than doing I'm Telling you here.

I hope it's better in the actual movie.

i'm sorry but actually disagree. I've heard that comedy is quite harder and you have to give Eddie credit for being able to bring multiple characters in one movie or scene and make it believeable.

but that's my twocents

It`s from the book "Call her miss Ross" The book also talks about Whitney Houston being considered for a part in "Dreamgirls", when it was planned earlier. Ross, who looked at Houston as a big rival at the time, was NOT happy about it. Houston was quoted as having said: "I`m very upset by Diana`s actions. It`s a great part, and it`s the one i want to be my acting debut. I don`t want it ruined by anyone"

It could have been interesting....

Spoken like a true good church going gal lol

Whitney would've been a good choice for Effie. Lauryn Hill was approached by the producer too(for Effie) but she was going through her own personal demons, so she couldn't really do it.

It`s been a while since i last heard about Lauryn Hill, "The miseducation of Lauryn Hill" is one of the best albums from the 90s. I like the single "Doo wop" better than anything she did with the Fugees.
