yes they do.

Do you see a copy of RIT or Blonde Ambition lying around your local video store?

Nope. CBS owns the rights to RIT til it is broadcasted. Pioneer owns the rights for BA which they put out on their Laser Disc format but since they don't have a DVD department we don't have it today.

Madonna owns the footage and, if she and CBS could not come to terms over the content of the broadcast, she is free to walk and release whatever she damn well pleases.

no. it's part of the contract. she cannot release the DVD of RIT until three months after it's broadcast. She tried to get around it by having I'm Going to Tell You a Secert broadcast on MTV. It did not work. That is why we still do not have the DVD of RIT.

Wuh-RONG. It was her choice to release IGTTYAS rather than a straight concert release. If she and the network could not come to terms over an edit of RIT, she could release a DVD the day after that was decided.

What was the issue with the RIT concert special, anyway?

Words can't even express my dismay at the decision of this. EVERYONE has seen pictures of her on the cross already. WHat difference does it make? It's Madonna on a cross! big whoop! They'll show her whipping her dancers and doing a sexy lap dance on that revolving saddle, which is WAY more racier than her strapped to the corss, which was boring IMO. They better at least show the footage of the video screens during the song.

So over everyone and their stupid PC BS. And since when does Madonna cow to executives...Ok She did the same thing with the video of AL.

There's a big surprise. lol Network concert specials never pull in big ratings, anyway. Both Springsteen's and U2's bombed.

In these types of situations, right-wing groups often put pressure on the network (threatening boycotts, etc.).

its always amazing to me how one act can be deemed inappropriate or offensive but another of the same stature goes overlooked.

I am wondering if the Sorry part where she implicaets Bush as a Liar will be edited.

I'll say it again: The FCC will be watching & NBC doesn't want to get fine millions of U.S. dollars for showing Madonna-on-a-cross/stake on a non-cable TV network.

CrozzaUK

Does anyone know whether this will affect the way the show is aired in other countries. I live in the UK and can safely say there is zero chance of any UK network wanting to remove the performance. Im guessing someone like Channel Four will air it, but does anyone know whether they will have to air the same thing NBC air....I'm guessing not!

Ya know, I was a little let down too when I heard it. But then I thought that done right, emphasizing the video backdrops or even sneaking in some new footage might make more sense. Her part of the performance could then be more about the AIDS orphans her charitable work is targeting. www.raisingmalawi.org

Personally, I want a video of Cloud's unreal head-spinning routine more than her on the cross! eyepop WTH, it will all be on the DVD.

Anyway, you have to pick your fights. Maybe this one wasn't worth it, esp. with the other silliness going on? shrug

She's lined up to be on the Today Show and Oprah next week, maybe we'll get to hear a little more about this (and not just about the adoption and the new book!).

I always understood that pulling the AL video was more her choice than the result of outside pressure. At least her statements at the time were clear on the topic. But maybe she just didn't want to deal with the flaming she would have got at that moment. However I was preoccupied with other matters at that time and may have missed something! wink

Of course, a year later she put the same stuff in her live show, but a lot of people were on the boat by then. nod wink

Personally, I'm dying to see this! With so much going on at any given moment during the show, I'm interested to see what they choose to show!

There is nothing "indecent" about the performance, thus nothing for the FCC to latch onto. This is just the zealots carrying on about a supposed insult to their religion and symbols.

Excatly....I think we are on the same page. You can't get fined unless it's indecent. It would be a crazy strech to say that Madonna's hanging from a cross. Now complaints after the fact? Who cares since it's truly only a few lunatics how send the letters under different names, and even pay people to do this (So I've heard someone confess that they were out of work and did this for income). If they got their ratings, they'll be happy.

If Madonna flashed her then 47 year old bobby, you might get fined millions. A crazy Christain organization would be hard pressed to get even this FCC to fine NBC and Madonna over that bit. I think NBC is most afraid of the crazies getting advertisers to pullout, which does in fact happen.

....like that controversy that was provoked back in the 80's because of the video for Like A Prayer? No one was fine at the time (the video would air on MTV instead of the local networks). But Madonna DID lose her endorsement deal with Pepsi that same week.

? The government has nothing to do with this...it's a matter of NBC and/or Madonna deciding they don't want to deal with a bunch of complainers or even an organized boycott!

You want to talk about "repression" with regard to the Live to Tell performance, go check out what happened in Dusseldorf and Amsterdam.
