Peggy Lee - "I Only Have Eyes for You"

One of the greatest voices of all-time singing one of the great songs of all-time. Nothing beats The Flamingos version, but this is lovely. cloud9

She's long been a favorite of mine. This one just came out and I'm gonna listen to it in the next few days...

I know, it's early. It's also got her recipe for "Stuffing a la Lee." lol

nod You are correct. A friend of mine loves to tell me how he gave her advice on the matter when he ran into her somewhere. I don't think she gave a fuck what this anonymous, rolly polly queen she'd never met had to say but he used to recount the story to me...often.

found these:

Lady and the Tramp (1955). The animated film featured a character named Peg, a broken-down old showgirl of a dog, whose provocative walk was based on the stage-prowl of Peggy Lee. Later she sued Disney and won a landmark legal judgment for a portion of the profits from the videocassette sale of the film.

&

In the early 1990s, she retained famed entertainment attorney Neil Papiano, who, on her behalf, successfully sued Disney for royalties on Lady and the Tramp. Lee's lawsuit claimed that she was due royalties for video tapes, a technology that did not exist when she agreed to write and perform for Disney.

what do you think of Bette Midler's Peggy Lee album?

my best friend who past a couple years ago was the biggest Bette Midler fan around. i know she would've loved this album. nod i've yet to get it, but i've heard previews and watch an interview about it. and there's one with a dvd if you're interested. her Rosemary Clooney songbook is brilliant!

Though I'm not a big Bette Midler fan at all, I had passing interest in that project. It had two of my favorites: Barry Manilow and Peggy Lee. I gave it a listen online but didn't really care for it. Their styles just don't match. Peggy had such a velvety smooth voice that really seemed to come without effort. Bette can sound good and can definitely do BIG sound, but her voice sometimes has an affect to it.

As much as I like Barry's 70s arrangements (and I think The Divine Miss M is one of his best efforts as far as arrangements for other artists go), I don't like this retro thing he's into these days. It kinda bores me. I liked the Peggy tribute more than I thought I would, but ultimately it just made me wanna hear Peggy. I wasn't into it. It just didn't have the cha, cha, cha....on top...cha, cha, cha!

i can hear that. nod

i love the standards and i applaud Bette for being one of the few that keep them alive. her version of "Come Rain Or Come Shine" blows me away.

I`m not that familiar with Peggy Lee, i would like to hear her "Mirrors" album, i`ve heard some good things about that.

Another good vocalist from the same era, a favorite of mine is Doris Day, her christmas album is a gem too nod
