Midnight Special Featuring Host Wolfman Jack

Now, I'm going to to really take you back now. How many people remember this late night show in the 70s. The show was hosted by Wolfman Jack. He had all of the latest funk/rock/disco and soul acts performing on this show. KC And The Sunshine Band used to perform on the show on a frequent basis. The Bee Geed used to perform on the show. Michael Jackson and The Jacksons used to perform on the show a lot in the late 70's. This show used to really kick much booty in the 70's. I think Prince may have perform on the show once. Sister Sledge turned out a great performance on the show a few times. If they were hot, they were on this show in the 70's. I would love to have some videotapes of some of these episodes as well...(LOL).

prince played the midnight special on january 11, 1980. he lip synced i wanna be your lover and why you wanna treat me so bad? wearing zebra striped underwear. it was very much like the american bandstand performance from 1980.

I remember it, but I think I remember Don Kirshner's Rock Concert more. Kirshner was stiff, but his show wasn't.

the "episode" of the midnight special that knocked me out was in 1973 they broadcast a david bowie special called "the 1980 floor show" featuring alladin sane and diamond dogs cuts. classic bowie, way ahead of his time.

Yeah, I've got the whole Jacksons one from either 1978 or 1979. It was all mimed though and pretty boring, except when they got Jermaine to perform with them for the first time. And Shake Your Body rocks EVERY time.

MIDNIGHT SPECIAL...I remeber HELEN REDDY being the host too!
They tended to just play hits, but I do remember OHIO PLAYERS giving up a stank-funkperformance. I remember HERBIE HANCOCK gto way out too and COMMODORES doing MACHIE GUN!

Kirshner's show was too cool! They did full sets. Iknwo he's got a FUNKADELIC gig in his archives.

I was very young. Remember the show. Tight, crazy, dope show. Wolfman Jack was cool and on the money! That voice was unique! (R.I.P. Wolfman!). I checked out lots of the acts you talked about, because it was on a Friday night/Saturday Morning. They re-ran lots of shows on VH-1 3-4 years ago. It was great. Sly and the Family Stone, Prince, James Brown, Al Green and Wilson Pickett (who were hypnotically sexy on those shows), Wilson Pickett, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and Rufus, etc. Also, Don Kirshner's show was great as well. I liked the theme song by Sarah Dash of LaBelle. Phenomenal shows.

That was the first time I saw Bowie was on that show. I wasn't that impressed. Took a few years before I got into him.
What I'm not sure of was around the same time I saw Roxy Music on late one Friday night - so was that on Midnight Special or the Don Kirschner Rock Concert show. Now them I was impressed with. That was either '72 or '73.
