biggrin That's my other favorite Rufus/Chaka song, along with Please Pardon Me...I also love the way Kevin Murphy's wonderful piano intro opens the song, followed by Tony Maiden's guitar trills.....and Clare Fischer's strings, of course!!

That was a slap on the face(comparing to her previous ones). Did you know that she wasn't even in the same room with the Rufus fellas during that period? Quincy Jones was the link between them. Tells ya why the hell there ain't no spark between them.

It was during that time where she fired a shotgun @ her husband lol

Masterjam is the bomb man lol Do you know the exact story as to why she ever had a falling out and continually does not give them their due? Her solo shit is mostly crap compared to her Rufus years. She'd hardly be a legend if you removed the Rufus material.

She wanted a more Jazzy oriented scenery, whereas they wanted to stick with the funk. Simple as that. Plus, they were a lil' too over-protective of her which from the sound of it, doesn't sit quite well with her wild child nature.

Wow. It's too bad both sides couldn't give a little because the Rufus years were golden.

'Masterjam' is one of those albums that should be great, but for some reason,it misses the mark. The leadoff single "Do You Love What You Feel" is excellent, the perfect blend of disco and funk. But none of the other songs even come close. That same year (1979),Quincy Jones was producing Michael Jackson's landmark 'Off The Wall' album and I think he saved all his good ideas for that album. On 'Masterjam',it seems as if he's just going through the motions.

Whatever problems Chaka and Rufus had in the past, they apparently patched things up.They re-formed in 2001 and went on a reunion tour with Earth Wind and Fire.During the shows,Chaka often mentioned that they were working on a new album together, but alas,it never materialized.

She dissed that tour in her book and put a more blame into the 9/11 thing.

When you put it that way lol The first 3 songs are killer in my book. I guess the rest is kind of spotty but still I'd always want it in my collection.

I think her MOST personal stamp in that album is What Am I Missing?(co-pinned by her brotha, Mark Stevens) which sounds right out of Street Player's alley nod

You know what is crazy about the riff over the jazz vs funk? WHEN SHE WEN'T SOLO SHE DIDN'T RELEASE JAZZ ALBUMS!!! WTF!? lol

I was disappointed by Classikhan. I would have much rather heard original material than interpretations. Hated the version of 2 sir with love. Matter of fact, that song will never be topped by this chick that sang it on Maury Povich. Chaka sounds asleep compared to the way that woman turned that song out lol

Becoz the label prevented her from doing so. I am thankful for the bits here and there:

Echos Of An Era

C.K.'s Billie Holiday tribute

My Funny Valentine(which should've been backed by a trio not Babyface's plastic production)

The songs she per4med with Lionel Hampton's orchestra.

Madame Butterfly and not to mention her haunting per4mance of "Summertime" in Joe Henderson's "Porgy & Bess".

Not thrilled with ClassiKhan either disbelief
