The Jacksons "Victory"

Give it up for The Victory LP, I've been jammin' this recently, and it's is great. This is probally the most underatted and least respected Jacksons albums. Every track besides Mike's "Be Not Always" is killer. I'm surprised it wasn't number one on the charts (#4)

1 Torture
2 Wait
3 One More Chance
4 Be Not Always
5 State of Shock (w/Mick Jagger)
6 We Can Change the World
7 The Hurt
8 Body

One thing we can probally all agree, it's the best Jacksons album cover.

MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

LittleBLUECorvette, you have gotta BE KIDDING ME!!! The Jacksons' Victory is probably one of the worst records the Jacksons' ever recorded or contributed to. It's not even too much of a Jacksons' record. Michael was still at the height of his career, and he didn't even involve himself to much in the production of the record, he basically just wrote 2 numbers on here. Jermaine didn't really do anything here as well, just singing some vocals on the Body track. And although it was their best-selling album, the project didn't and still hasn't made a huge impact, artistically. I think the reason why the album has done so well commercially is because of the tour. I just liked moderately two songs on this record, the rest is garbage to me.

Most people don't like it because it isn't the "traditional" Jacksons LP. But thetas why I like it, so the other brothers can get there time to shine. Tito, Marlon and Randy had never had whole tracks to themselves on previos LP's and this was their chance.

Yeah those 3 had talent, the only difference was they were average, in my book.

Favorite singer - Michael Jackson
Favorite color - Yellow

Yeah this cover ROCKS. biggrin

As for the LP, "Torture" and "Stake Of Shock" are good. Beyond that, "Be Not Always" is okay like once or twice a year. Not bad. Not great.

Is "we can change the world" the same as the Captain EO song?

Nah that's "We Are Here To Change the World"...Tito sings the Jacksons song. I've always loved "Wait", "We Can Change The World" and "The Hurt" but I think Triumph is a better Jacksons album.

This album SUCKS! As far as I'm concerned, after 'Off The Wall',Michael shouldn't have done any more albums with his brothers.I don't even think he really wanted to do this album. He was talked into it by his family. They were using his fame to generate interest in their own fading careers.

The song "State Of Shock" is so bad that it's good lol really sucky lyrics:

you got me on my knees
please,baby,please
I know you like to tease
but please,baby,please
You take it to me good
like you know you should
I love the way you walk
talk,baby,talk

As much as I loved the Jacksons this album was a disappointment. I wanted to like it so badly but really the only thing I played off of it was State of Shock, Wait, and One More Chance.

SoulAlive

when this album was released in the summer of '84,there was a much better Jackson-related song that was being played on our local R&B station...

"Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin" by Jermaine Jackson and Michael Jackson

This song is GREAT,and it rivals anything on 'Victory'.Hell, even Rockwell's song "Somebody's Watching Me" kills anything on 'Victory'.Imagine if the Jacksons had recorded that song, with one of the brothers doing the verses and Mike doing the chorus.

What?! You are aware that Triumph was recorded after Off The Wall right? eek

As for Victory... State of Shock is a nice little jam. Would have been better with Freddie Mercury though. One More Chance by Randy is probably the best thing on there. I like Torture simply because Jermaine and MJ sing well together. The rest I could take or leave.

My favourite is Be not always. That´s just so simple, yet beautiful.

Yes, Victory was an album that fooled a lot of longtime Jackson fans...It basically was only cynically released because of the tour (the material itself is lackluster...) But to say that MJ should have stopped recording with his brothers after what I believe was his most soulful and cohesive album, Off The Wall, is taking things to the extreme....I would advise you to pick up the album Triumph (which came out 1980-81)....That album is the best and most consistent Jacksons album ever released....

The album was rushed. Michael and Marlon did a couple of tracks together like "Doing Dirty" but those songs didn't make the album. Hell, even the damn title track made the album!

I like it, but DESTINY and TRIUMPH r more polished albums.

VICTORY was THRILLER fallout - Marlon's "BODY" is painfully a "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" rip-off and "TORTURE", "WAIT" sound so dated now.

I still get shivers from that monster BASS on "STATE of SHOCK" and Randy's "ONE MORE CHANCE" is a timeless classic - which JANET covered in 1993.

Kudos 2 TOTO for providing most of the actual music on the album and yes, that cover was awesome in it's day, but MARLON (far left) isn't anywhere near that tall in reality nor has TITO (extreme right) ever been that slim... lol lol

With MJ's career in shambles now, maybe the time is ripe 4 anutha JACKSONS reunion album... wink
