Mine are, in this order:

1. Prince. The first time I heard of him was when I heard "Soft and Wet", didn't know who made the song. I distinctly remember going to the record store, asking for the song Soft and Wet, getting the 45, looking at it outside the record store and seeing the name "Prince." I said to myself, Prince? It's a guy singing this song? I thought it was a lady. I didn't realize then how profoundly an effect his music would have on my life.

2. George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic/The Brides/Parlet- Ilovvvved them before they blew up. They'd be in Detroit all the time, there would only be 50 people at the most in the audience and played like there were 50,000 in the audience. I got into them in 1971, never stopped adoring them. I paid about $5 to see a great 3 hour show, before many people knew about them.

3. Earth Wind and Fire. What can I say, loved almost every song they made.

4. Curtis Mayfield. The Poet. I was so sad when he died. I was Curtis Mayfield crazy. My three favs were, "Hell Below", Stone Junkie and Move on Up.

5. Sly and the Family Stone. I absolutely loved them also. It saddened me to see Sly at the Grammys with what looked to be osteoperosis, or something like it.

Honorable Mention - Stevie Wonder. If I hadn't loved the others so much, he'd be up there.
