Gnarls Barkley - 'St Elsewhere' is Brilliant.

This album is strong musically, lyrically, and vocally.

The song sequencing is perfect.

How often do U get a new album, and your favorite track is the last one? When was "The Last Time"?

The album is "dark" and haunting, through the use of particular string and choir parts, but at the same time, a lot of "fun". There is some serious genre blending here as well.

Post if U dig it, if U will...

The thing that is most impressive to me is that the duo is so effortless and uncontrived in the process of make genre-bending music. It ain't hip-hop, but it ain't pop or soul music either. It's Gnarls Barkley.

We talk down contemporary hip-hop on this board regularly. And rightfully so. But Gnarls Barkley represents hip-hop's cutting edge. OutKast and Kanye West are recognized by the mass audiences, and Common has recently received his due from the music world, but cats like Danger Mouse, Cee-Lo, Madlib, MF Doom, and the late J Dilla are working together, separately, and interchangeably to create new sounds and new angles for hip-hop, picking up from where De La, ATCQ, Digable Planets, and the Fugees/Lauryn left off the previous decade.

Hip-hop ain't completely dead because, thankfully, it ain't quite what it used to be.

By the way, sorry if this is old, but did anybody hear the original piece of music that was sampled for "Crazy"? It was called, "Nel Cimitero Di Tuscon" and was composed by the Reverberi brothers for the 1968 film, "Perarati La Bara!" . they were both students of Ennio Morricone's style of film scoring, actually it sounds like one of his themes...

I don't think I'm allowed to post the entire mp3 here, but
check here for the "Listen" link to the tune:

Ditto, right-on, co-sign, double that.
It does kind of remind me of the Prince Paul days of hip-hop in it's approach.

Oh that's deep.
I was wondering where all of the Italian musicians and writers that R credited on nearly every song came from.

What a great, heartening comment. I've slept BIGTIME on hip hop in recent years, and I have only heard GB's singles. But you just sold another album for them. I'll have to pick one up this weekend.

For Cee-Lo, try Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections. His follow-up, the Soul Machine, fell flat IMHO.

Until a couple of years ago, I felt the same way. JerseyKRS put me on to Madvillainy and my faith in hip-hop was restored.

Sample JayLib's Champion Sound and J Dilla's Donuts and The Shining for size as well. You can sample those on either iTunes or Amazon, I think.

The Mouse and the Mask is the best album featuring Danger Mouse IMO. I'd get that one next if I were you.

Speakin' of "Boogie Monster", is anyone here down with "The Boogie Monsters", or even better yet, "Stepchild"?

If so, please raise your hand.
