From a improvisational standpoint, Herb leaves much to be desired, but he does know how to create catchy pop oriented songs. His 1979 album RISE is his greatest and most consistent album IM0. It contains the number #1 pop hit "Rise" that would sampled 18 years later by Notrious B.I.G. and Sean Puffy Combs for Biggie's hit "Hypnotize" from his Life After Death opus.

But my favorite track by him is "Route 101" a beautiful mesmermizing song that got played on a lot of adult contemporary radio stations in the early 80's. I can't enough about how great that track is.

I remember in 1987 he did an album produced by Jam and Lewis. It featured the hits "Diamonds" and "Makin Love In The Rain".Janet Jackson added vocals to both songs.Clearly,he was trying to make a commercial pop album and he succeeded.

But I prefer his 70s albums.
