Kicked in the head by a Gov't Mule Got invited by PFunkJazz to check out Gov't Mule at The Grove Tuesday night.
They're a little hard to describe as they incorporate a few different musical elements. The thing that holds it all together for me is that it all grooves. Combine their Jam Band roots with guitarist Warren Haynes' stints with the Allman Brothers and you'll get a clue as to what they're up to. Groovin' tunes with lots of improvisation. I think I was most impressed by the skills of drummer Matt Abts. ...the Diaz/Soldano guitar rig. ...first there's no band and then there is. Warren Haynes, Matt Abts & Andy Hess. (didn't get a pic of keys man Danny Louis) Btw, these pics earned me a trip to the parking lot with security. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. The guy recognized me from the Jeff Beck show and thought I was taking movies. After I explained to him that there was no way i'd be shooting movies as I had to dump some shots just to get the 4 I took onto the memory stick. He apologized for the inconvenience and all was well. Meanwhile they paid no attention to all the potheads in the joint... tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Hey man!
Wondered if that put a damper on your groove. Mule puts them hooves right up a newbies' ass. My first gig was interrupted by a bout of severe intoxication. LOL! Lots of deep blues metal rock with jazz improvs; like Black Sabbath or Cream. Helps to sharpen your memory of rock standards cuz they like to do covers. My pics didn't come out so good. Too much distortion. If you want some purchase advice: DOSE is prolly their best with bassist Allen Woody. He died in 2001. DEEP END is tribute to Allen featurures a bunch of guest bassists like Bootsy, Larry Graham, Flea, plus Bernie Worrell and others, 2 single discs plus a separate DVD RISING LOW DEEPEST END is 2 CD/DVD. Live with a lot of guests like Dirty Dozen Brass, Paul Jackson, Roger Glover, Jason Newstadt etc etc. it culminated the search for Woody's replacement. HIGH & MIGHTY is their latest and it's damn fine (with the Zeppelin-sounding tune "Streamlined Woman"). Honestly, I really like all the Mule's stuff. I'll hit ya with some live boots if ya want. We gonna hook up for Gregg Allman? BTW the live Fagen is choice. test

oh yeah
The 2nd guitarist you asked about is keyboardist Danny Louis. He's played on some studio tracks, but I've never seen him strap-on live. He also plays trumpet and he's played that before me. Didja notice a stewpot on Matt Abt's trapset? Look closely. That's Willie Nelson's own chili pot. While recording the new album at Nelson's ranch, Abts liked the sound he got using it as percussion and snatched it. They ran to K_Mart to replace it before they left. test

We got attention from near-drunken white chick. I also got half her 2nd beer and place to stay in Colorado. (Hold on a minute! That sounds a little too Kobe!) I'll PM you about the Allman show. It's sometime around Thanksgiving. There's a date in OC and a date at Canyon Club, but if it's midweek I can't roll out to CC. test
