I was home over the weekend and I was shocked to see that MTV did in fact play Janet's "So Excited" video, during that very limited time that they show videos....it was probably around 8AM. It's obviously not the same as Janet doing an MTV special or TRL, but I guess the ban ended....just as the album is dying (just like with DJ....I remember that MTV did play "All Nite").

Yeah I dont think MTV has as much an impact on record sales cuz of video exposure. That's a thing of the past. Their reality shows sell records (Danity KAne)...

we can all admit that DJ wasnt a great album... it wasnt really good...

but this new album sounds AMAZING... these songs are so catchy... and the midtemp and slow songs are classic 90's janet...

the only reason people are bashing this album is because its JANET JACKSON... if beyonce or letoya luckett or anyone else created this album, you guys would be praising this album....
if someone is complaining about this janet album... then they dont know what good class Rnb sounding janet is... this album sounds like a mixture of 80s, 90.s and 2000's hip hop/ rnb.. and it sounds great

I am a harsh critic or everyone's music... and I expected the worst from JJ's album before listening... and when i recieve the album and listened to it... I was blown away... she really surprised me with this album... its sounds Amazing... I didnt even expect it to sound this great... most people who are talking Negative about janet's album hasnt bought it... they just heard only Call on me and So excited... and thats what they judge the album by... but they dont realize that Call on me and So excited are the only two bad songs off the album.... janet released her weakest songs... If you bought this album.. and listen to every song... from begging to end.. then you would love this JJ album... and if your a true JJ fan... you could Only enjoy this album...

but.... isn't that the point of singles? to represent to the public what the album sounds like and get them to buy it? she released two very weak songs, so there's no reason for anyone to think that the rest of the album is any better, if those are the 2 lead singles they're trying to market it with. you promote an album by releasing your two strongest and/or most commercially appealing tracks as the first singles. if this is the best they (the people who created them and are in charge of promoting it) could come up with, then what does that say about the rest of the album?

DID YOU BUY JANET'S NEW ALBUM... and if you did.. describe a part in one of her interludes.. that only a person who bought the album would know... because I dont even think you bought the album.... because if you did... then you wouldnt have made that comment about "dj being a better album than 20 Y.O.... and Your logic doesnt make any sense AT ALL... and thats a problem... confused

THE sad thing is HALF OF THESE PEOPLE talking trash about janet's album has NOT EVEN BOUGHT THE ALBUM.... they are just bashing... janet... and they do NOT know what their talking about....

this album is one of her best... i would say in her top 3 or 4 albums... its an album i would recommend to any janet fan...

I expected the album to sound bad like DJ... but when i listened to it... I was shocked... it actually sounded great...

so until you bought janet's album and listen to each song... you have NO RIGHT TO BASH HER ALBUM...

lol you're funny.

ok, so do you want me to tell you about the intro where she talks about "saying nothing," or would you rather i tell you about the interlude where she's talking to lynette about the "good times days?" or how about the phone call interlude when she asks someone "when are you coming home?"

something tells me if you're going to attack someone because they think one record is better than another, you probably shouldn't be making logic judgments. mmkay?

I dunno how anyone could say that 20 YO is better than Damita J. I really liked that album. It had about 5-6 killer tracks whereas this new one has, erm, none.

OK, I didn't buy it. I downloaded the fucker. And played it through three times, waiting for something good to happen. It didn't. I wasted a very good TDK CDR on that piece of crap. There are two good songs on it - So Excited and Enjoy. The rest is dreadful. And it's the first Janet album I'm not buying since Control.

Dunno about 5-6 killer tracks, I'd say 3, but - those embarassing "Oooooh, I'm WET!" interludes aside - listening to it wasn't as painful as listening to 20 YO was.

I absolutely love 'Like You Don't Love Me', despite the shit lyrics, 'Thinking 'Bout My Ex' a little less so. 'Strawberry Bounce' grew on me quickly, 'SloLove' was repetitive but was much better than 'Come On Get Up' for a summery dance tune. 'Sexhibition' was finally an uptempo sex song from Janet. Those on top of 'All Nite (Don't Stop' and 'I Want You'. I thought it was a very memorable album and would have been brilliant if the shit was shaved down.

I complain about the overt sexual tones in her music, but to be honest I don't care about that if it's a funky dance song. 'Throb' is a masterpiece, but when she's coo-ing and ooh-ing over dull tuneless drivelly bass grooves as if she's just masturbating in the studio, then I have a problem.

"Throb" is indeed a masterpiece. Sexy as hell. "Boom boom boom until noon noon noon". Warped me forever. lol Mind you, I thought it was utterly toothless live, when I saw her on tour and on the Velvet Rope vid.

I didn't buy it either and I'm glad I didn't. I've listened to it multiple times and even commented in previous threads as trying to like it. But I don't. So now what? Guess that makes me a hater although I've been a fan longer than some die-hards have been alive.

I preferred DJ and that’s not saying much. It’s really the lesser of 2 poos. Well 3 if you include AFY. But at least there were songs on DJ and AFY that I didn’t mind playing every now and then. I just can’t sit through anything on 20YO including Enjoy. Yes, it’s classic Janet but I don’t get the thrill from it that everyone else does but that’s just me. I preferred Do It 2 Me but that got old after just a few rotations.

It’s all just a matter of opinion anyway so who really cares? Funny how this album has garnered so much attention and numerous threads.

If an artists wants people to risk their hard earned money on music put out strong singles, interesting videos and talk about the music that you’ve made. Talk about why you think it’s your best or most innovative or most introspective material or just plain good. Something that shows you're interested in your new baby as a creative heartfelt effort and not just another fulfillment on your contract as you exit the building or vehicle for your egotistical lover/husband to boast about on godd*mn messageboards no less and bully consumers into purchasing.

AND I even forgot to mention the brilliant R&B Junkie in my last post. Take out Moist, Warmth, the insipid My Baby, Island Life and Just A Little While and DJ is a very solid album...

OK, so half a solid album. Still more than I can say for 20 YO. I just can;t get my head around anyone calling Enjoy or Daybreak "classic Janet" eek

And AFY really wasn't that bad, I thought. I loved Son Of A Gun.

AFY really wasn't that bad in retrospect. At the time though, I wasn't thrilled nor did I buy it. I did find a bizarre comfort in China Love, When We Ooo, and I definitely dug Trust A Try (which I believe was leftover from TVR days).

Bizarre comfort indeed. wink When We Oooo was, urm , pooooo.

I even liked Someone To Call My Lover, even if that song saw The Troll come on the scene and the lyrics were shite. Son Of A Gun, mate. Janet sounded real pissed off. Loved the cover of the All For You single too ... My wife almost divorced me when I came home with the 12" lol I explained that a contentious piece of cardboard didn't constitute reasonable grounds for a break-up.

When We Ooo is indeed poo, China Love even moreso but it just goes to show that everyone likes what they like and sometimes there's no justifiable reasoning. Someone to Call My Lover was sooo mediocre to me, remixed or not. I never got that one. The earlier songs I mentioned were my own little joys but I'd hardly recommend them or bash folks for disliking them. I thought AFY was going to be a one time dip and Janet would resurface strong with something ala Control, RN1814 or TVR but that didn't happen.

Maybe, maybe not, It's been some posts since i said that and i'm still kicking, i honestly feel there's a lot of truth in my original statement. I only picked up 'Control' and it's 12" singles based on who her brother was, and i know I'm probably not alone in that.

Don't get me wrong, i used to like Janet a hell of a lot, but sorry to say i got off after AFY. she's just too 'samey' these days. I find her repetitive and really quite boring these days.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is that you have to understand that the people who haven't heard the CD are ripping on it because the 2 lead singles are weak, so obviously they think the rest of the album stinks too.

if the first 2 singles are crap, why would anyone want to buy it?

and my problem isn't even the lackluster album. i mean, i'm used to that, 3 times in a row now. what i'm unhappy about is the style of music it is as opposed to all the hype that it was to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Control, and the way she's promoting herself (with her tits again).
