Geniuses??? eek

Luther Vandross - great voice. respected. but nothing special IMO.
R. Kelly - as a producer he did some 'good' stuff. besides that barf another person who should never be behind a mic.
Teddy Riley - nod dancing jig
Babyface - nod i can see that
Gerald Levert - almost a legend. sure i'll give it to him.
Anita Baker - genius..hmmm? i don't know. but definitely more deserving than most. love her.
Maxwell - worship this man can do no wrong....so far so good. nod
Keith Sweat - i like his music, but, not someone i'd call a genius.

oh yeah..the others...i think someone was just desperate to fill out the list. lol

i woulda put maurice white in the list. I prefer him over philip bailey, who still has a supurb voice, so maybe both should be in the top 10?

Luthers voice is incredible though.

Teddy riley does not sing LOL, except if u count "long gone", and many would say his voice ruined that track (i dig his voice on that cut though, it sounds sincere)

Replace Luther with Teddy Riley and I agree. Of course, it all depends on how you define the word genius. Most of the people on that list are little more than great vocalists (technically and/or emotionally). D'Angelo's 2 albums are spectacular, Babyface has written a lot of great songs, and R. Kelly has been pretty prolific, but if you talk about songwriting, producing, arranging, playing, and influence, T.R. is head and shoulders above the others on the list.

Of course, any list with that title that doesn't include Stevie Wonder is a complete joke, so whatever. disbelief

I definitely have to agree. Although I like Mary, D'Angelo and Anita I would NEVER call any of them geniuses. The rest of the list is a bit of a joke.

Seems like they only consider artists geniuses if they make boring slow shit only. If not, Prince and Stevie would have been at the top of the list.

I can live with everybody except Mary J and Keith Sweat. There is just no way to associate the word genius with either of them in a musical sense.
Luther is very deserving of the spot as is D'Angelo. Anita Baker is that vocalist that many have copied but few give credit as an influence. Erykah is a brilliant lyricist. Whether you like her voice or not, she can write her skinny ass off. It was "ingenius" of Teddy to sell 1,000 variations of the same groove to so many artists in the 90s. R.Kelly is not a genius. He does have an uncanny ability to keep his finger on the pulse of the masses and though I've never been a fan, I have to respect that. Maxwell and Gerald are incredible vocalists. Two of the best in the biz. I don't know about genius but they are undeniable.

From dictionary.com...

gen‧ius –noun, plural gen‧ius‧es
1. an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc.: the genius of Mozart.

2. a person having such capacity.

Oh, I get it. They must not consider Prince R&B. biggrin
perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...
