Alt version of bowie's 1984?

I was reading once in a review of diamonds dogs that there was a previously released version of 1984, apparently with more prominent guitar or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

Anx

i'd have to hit my bowie books for the most specific info, though right off hand i can recall the 1984/dodo medley recording that i think was meant for the 1984 stage show before the orwell estate said no to the idea. you can get that version from the ryko reissue or the recent 30th anniversary reissue of 'diamond dogs'...is that what you might be talking about? i know there's a lot of demo stuff from 'diamond dogs' floating around...

I think it's the "Dodo/1984" medley Anx mentioned. Originally recorded for a post-Ziggy tv special called "The 1980 Floor Show". It's the only alternate version I've ever heard. Available on the Diamond Dogs deluxe edition.

Speaking of Bowie, anyone know whatever happened to the supposed 30th Anniversary reissue of Young Americans? It was all remixed and remastered, according to Tony Visconti, and ready to roll .... then nothing.

they probably realized it was a crap package and went back to the drawing board.

Bowie might have even said as much. I can't remember for sure.

Good call if they did. Not enough outtakes.

There is still supposed to be a reissue of Station To Station on the cards, complete with the full Thin White Duke gig. But, knowing Bowie, this has probably changed.

i hope bowie bitched up a storm about it. the main "draw" of this reissue was that it was supposed to be a cd/dvd hybrid. whoopdefriggindoo. there are outtakes galore from this album and they're GREAT. i hope the bowie fanbase went on bowienet with a collective "oh HELL naw!" and made 'em go back to the drawing board.

I was hoping for some of his unreleased "Man Who Fell To Earth" instrumentals.
