This really dates me but I'll go ahaead anyway - when I was a little kid I would get up early before anyone else & watch tv. This was in the 50's so there wasn't much on tv. At 5:30 am I would watch an exercise program which was followed at 5:45 am by Liberace. Then Capt. Kangaroo came on at 6:00 am & I was set until breakfast. I can't say I'm a fan of Liberace but I used to be an avid viewer of his tv show.

From what I remember, he was the first major celebrity to die of AIDS, I think before Rock Hudson. That was a big deal at the time.

It was just Liberace sitting at the piano & he would play music & talk between the songs. It was in black & white & very simple - just Liberace & his piano & candlabra.

Liberace was the ultimate showman.....the artists of today could take some lessons from him.

He was articulate, a talented and well-trained pianist, and he knew how to entertain....he had charisma. He was flashy - even sometimes bordering on tacky, but for some reason he could get away with it on stage and it was OK. Along with the glamour and glitz, he had personality plus, granting him the luxury of all the 'bling'.

Yes, he died of AIDS, but I am saddened that people remember that before they remember how accomplished he was and his effervescene and beloved personality.

Some of you young'uns...check him out if you get a chance.

Does anyone know any outrageous stories about him like playing on diamond studded piano and such? Or how about some pictures!!! I missed the museum when I was in Las Vegas, though I did try to go. I think it was closed or something. pout

Does anyone else get the feeling that Prince is having some variation of this made, as we type?
...and that his new thing will be "Where's Bob George?"

When I was in Las Vegas last April, I had dinner one night at an Italian restaurant right next door to the...

...Liberace Museum

Unfortunately it was closed so we couldn't go in...

...But right inside the front door you could see this giant photo.

the first celebrity I can remember dying of AIDS was Klaus Nomi, even one or two years before Rock Hudson

anyway, as for Liberace I don't know his music very well, except for the occasional TV appearances in Las Vegas shows and alike.. but his style was quite memorable no doubt.. who else had the guts to dress as a giant vagina eek

He was the pioneer of bling. The thing is he had so many fans from Muhammed Ali to Nina Simone..

I just like the fact that he was a total showman...I mean he even use to come on stage with women like Lola Falana dress up to the nines.
