Janet's 20 Y.O. has fallen out of the Top 10 according to HitsDailyDouble.

The album sits at number 12 according to the chart, selling just under 70K in its second week--an astronomical drop from 296K last week.

This is uglier than I thought. What the fuck is going on?

I think the whole 20 year old hype thing just fell flat and people got bored and moved on. Especially since the CD didn't pay any homage to Control whatsoever as Janet had stated, and the marketing was not so much on the music but how hot she looks at 40.

I wish she would just set up shop at the next big hotel in Vegas already with a kickass show. It would be huge. The FCC/MTV/Viacom can't sabotoge her there, she has a fantastic rep as a live entertainer...retail, radio, and video aren't her strong suit anymore. Just get on stage and make shit loads of $$$$ Janet.

I love her LPs, including the new one, I hope she continues to make albums but I just wish she would do well at SOMETHING ever since the Super Bowl shit hit the fan. And I would rather see her onstage than anyplace else. I really thought this record had strong potential to be a smash..."So Excited" and "Do it 2 Me" I thought would be undeniable hits. I also think "With U" is a slam dunk for urban radio...

But you know Virgin will probably abandon this album faster than Damita Jo with these awful numbers.

That's not good. 2 commercially unsuccessful albums in a row for a 40 year old diva isn't good grounds to release her next album from. Though i think she could pull off a successful tour.

Virgin's promo department is not doing they're job at all...

this is exactly what i said would happen. i know sales say 296,000 sold last week but that was obviously due to fewer individuals purchasing multiple copies because of the different covers. this dramatic drop is illustrating just how few people have actually picked up this cd.

poor lead off singles, mismatched demographic marketing strategies, and generic music that doesn't bear (for the most part) the janet jackson signature sound can all be blamed...in part.

for a woman who's been in this business for all these years (and in the jackson family since birth), i think janet has very little say involvement in the direction of her career. how could she not have seen this outcome when most of us predicted this result, especially upon hearing the record?

Daaaaayuuum! I knew she was going to drop but out of the top 10? That's crazy. I know some folks love the album but it just never seemed strong enough to compete with the fluctuating charts. Still I didn't think it would drop like this in its second week.

actually, i haven't listened to it. but i have heard the 2 singles. and i did listen to the beginning of a few tracks. it was alright, but nothing that deserves to sell more than a few thousand copies.

(and yes i can read ) i found it at another store only to find out it was the cd/dvd edition. which is the one i'd want anyway, but some stores weren't carrying it.

i still like the album though.

yeah. the dvd wasn't that impressive. however it was only a few dollars more than the regular edition. and the book was pretty nice. i actually picked up a fan made one but didn't open it. i went to another store and found the official cover. so i went back and returned the other. the choices for the covers (apart from the official) are horrible. so much for Janet being in "control" of her career.
