The 90's: The Most captivating decade for female artists?

I just came to the conclusion that 90's was the most captivating era for female artists. Comparing this decade to the 00's, I cringe withthe lack of quality and freshness that some (of these) female artists have...here are some examples that show that 90's are the best era in term of female artists that I bough over the years:

I don't know about the '90s being the MOST captivating decade for female artists, but it was certainly an impressive time compared to where things are now, especially for Black females. Instead of the legion of cookie-cutter, racially-ambiguous Barbie dolls "singing" over heavily sampled songs with guest-rappers, we had Nicole Renee, Angel Grant, Cherokee, Cree Summer, Me'shell Ndegeocello, Dionne Farris, Des'ree, Laurnea, Macy Gray and Lauryn Hill. If you extend the period to 2001, you also had such artists as Res and Kina. Of course, there are still indie artists like Alice Smith, but back then true Black female artists were signed and promoted by major labels in greater numbers.

Don't feel bad, I see your point and there's a case to be made. My favorite female artist came from that time period. I first discovered Canadian rock singer Bif Naked with the 1999 American release of "I Bificus" (released a year earlier in Canada) and have been smitten with her ever since. Unlike most of the artists I mentioned in my earlier post, after she was dropped by Atlantic after her album failed to blow up, she had the advantage of being established and successful in Canada with her own Her Royal Majesty's Records label, so I've been buying her earlier and later albums via Canadian import for years now.
