Rolling Stone Magazine, do we seriously take this magazine seriously

I think everytime i want to take them seriously, theres Fergie or someone else showing me their body. Since when did Rolling Stone become Maxim magazine? not only that, there reviews and writers are a joke too, Rolling Stone has about as much cred as Blender.

I like it...
Though I wish they would start putting better artists on their covers. I think its entertaining and I don't take it to seriously.

they did lose credibility but they were also a major source of music news back then....nowadays there are like tons more magazines to compete with right? i mean does anyone know of a really good source out there anymore?

I don't know when it started to go downhill, but to me it's been the same magazine since the 80s, when they used to have Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, fucken.. Dustin Hoffman on the covers. Some vague political articles. A few "what's going on in the music industry" features.

They always covered who was popular at the time. They used to do more mean lists though, like, "Worst Band" "Worst Tour" and just shiiiit on certain acts, but that's about all that's missing.

RollingStone has always reflected popular culture, it didn't create or lead trends simply a bookmark n what is popular. Their reviews are now just terrible!!!! they have the worst reviewers of any publication, How "Cassie" album got rave reviews is beyond anyone.

I remember when the reviews were like half a page, talking bout each song and influences and etc.

Last time i picked up a rolling stone the main reveiw was like 3 short paragraphs.

I still have the review of Sign O The Times from rolling stones, I find it bout every 2 yrs when im cleaning and swell with pride knowing that even in my youth I had kick ass taste in music.

cool

I think Rolling Stone has gotten really good again over the past 2 years. Mostly for their political articles. They've done some some good writing on the environment and the elections. As for their coverage of music...its alright, but thats what the Org is for cool

I pay seventeen dollars for a yearlong subscription and I don't really feel its a waste of money.
I am disappointed their reviews have gotten shorter, so I was very happy to see their nice long (five-star) Dylan review. biggrin

Me too! I was so annoyed. I don't want a RS subscription. Even if it's free! lol

I don't want my mail carrier and everyone in my building thinking I'm some kind of poseur for reading RS (too late). I'm gonna have to subscribe to ten indie magazines to undo this damage. neutral

I love Blender, but I'm over their habit of putting scantily clad women on the cover regularly.

They've cut back on that so it's like every other issue now. I have a few copies here in the office and the covers are Coldplay, U2, Family Guy, Eminem & 50 Cent, and Owen Wilson. No babes on any of those.

lol Thanks. I may have to leave my copy of 'Outburn' in the lobby for a few days after it arrives just so everyone can see I still have some cred.

Rolling Stone's movie reviews are pretty good. Their album reviews are hit or miss. I used to read it all the time for the news snippets, but nowdays you'll hear about this stuff faster on the web - then it shows up like a month later in RS's "news".

Peter Travers...he's amazing.

And I just adore Rob Sheffield's "Pop Life". biggrin

i still like Rolling Bones. yeah sure they pander to dreadful new music but they are still a liberal magazine and to me, in America, that counts for a whole lot. consider the bland magazine industry that panders to bland, vanilla lifestyles we need a magazine like R.S.

i haven't taken them seriously in years. you find a decent interview every now and then but they've become the magazine version of MTV, imo.
