Where was The Beat? I think I'm going to Folsom next weekend to visit a friend, so maybe I'll stop by if we end up cruising the old ghetto.

Mara

1. what's your favourite music (cd/record) shop?

2. if different; which store do you buy most of your music?
It's a toss up between Other Music, CD-WOW.com, Tower, Virgin and Amoeba. My taste is pretty scattered, so one store doesn't necessarily have all I need.

3. what section do you browse 1st? (i.e. new releases, jazz, pop, etc..)
Dance/Electronic and Import (if I'm in a chain like Virgin or Tower)

4. what was the last album you bought?
Skye :: Mind How You Go (2006)

5. what's the most amount of money you've spent on a purchase?
Probably an Australian import of a Joan Armatrading album. Forget the exact price. It was a few years ago on eBay.

6. do you return music at all? (not including defectives)
Not since the late '90s. You can't return opened CDs.

7. how long do you or can you spend in a music store?
I usually make a beehive to the dance/electronic and import sections.

8. do you have a 'midnight madness' sale (new releases sold the night prior) in your area; and how often do you go?
Last time I did that was for Janet's "20 Y.O." bought it at midnite.

9. do you always buy a new release you've been waiting for on the day of?
Most of the time.

10. do you buy music online: never? once in a while? always/only? if i have to?
All the time. Most of my titles this year came from an online retailer.

11. do you think these stores will eventually become extinct due to downloading?
Not sure.

12. what's the most annoying thing for you when you walk into a music store?
Bad music selected by the employees. Not being able to find what I want when I want it.

13. what's your favourite thing about walking into a music store?
Finding new and good music.

14. do you keep the sleeves and cases to your cds or do you just keep the disc?
I keep everything.

15. not including online: how easy/hard is it for you to find imports in your area?
Not that hard in New York. But I had to get Cicada, Lo-Fi-Fnk and a lot of electronic artists on the net since the dance selections are severely limited.

16. have you ever, or do you now, work in a record store? which one(s)?
Nope never have.

17. do you buy singles at all?
Used to.

18. besides price and favourite artist, what prompts you most to buy a cd at that very moment?
A good price, my mood and if I have disposable monies @ the time.

19. how strong is your will power not to buy an album, when you find something you want even though it may be pricey, or may not have the exact songs you want, etc...?
Very strong.

20. do you pay attention to the music playing in the store and have you bought the album that was playing? (specifically something new to you)
Not really.

21. recommend an album that you think most of us have never heard of.
Lo-Fi-Fnk :: Boylife (2006)
