Let's call it a promising pilot. I liked everything on the record to various degrees, except for "Baby." "Soft and Wet" is a classic, and "I'm Yours" is a bit underrated.

Yep, because in '79 "Regatta de Blanc" was released.

However, maybe it was delayed until '79 in the US. It was definitely released in '78 in the UK, though.

Wikipedia gives the release date of November 2, 1978.

My albums and CDs listed 79 for OdA and 80 for RdB. So does my iTunes info. Maybe there was a lag. But I'll double check.

I'm pretty much on board with everything you've posted there, excluding the Jam and Thin Lizzy. I used to be quite the big Jam fan, but their music produces a deeply negative reaction in me these days.

I don't dislike Thin Lizzy - I just don't really know anything about them.

I would add:

Hmmm... confuse I have the remasters, and they say '78 and '79. Zenyatta came out in '80, and Ghost in '81 and Synchronicity in '83.

I'm wondering if you maybe have the original release, and maybe if the US version was held back until '79. hmmm Most curious!

Check out Live & Dangerous, Damo, it's great. Thin Lizzy were a remarkable band. And your friend and mine, Mark E Smith was/is a huge Phil Lynott fan.

I don't listen to The Jam anymore either, but, as we were talking 1978, All Mod Cons was a cracking album in its time.

Pere Ubu get the thumbs up, but not so sure about Edmunds and Lowe - a bit literate pub rock, no?
