Aaliyah had Style more than overall Singing Greatness but She made it work better than the other two Mentioned Combined IMHO.Monica Can Sing but Damn She gets the most Generic Music to work with alot.this Woman Can Sing but the Material usually leaves alot to Be desired IMHO.Brandy in a fair World would have had Everythign Brittney Spears had.because Brandy Brought Back the Cool Female Teenage Singer&She does Music,Films,TV,Modeling,etc... but things didn't fully work out&Instead of Being Seen in the light as a-All-Around-Entertainment Force She is just getting By with Her Albums.TV Career is all by Shot maybe a Show here&there but it's pretty much done.as far as Films Go? either do a MJ Cameo or leave it all alone.as far as Music go:She can last as long as She doesn't drop a Album to often.A Album Every 3 Years is about Right for Her.I think her Voice has had moments but overall She is Middle of the Road on so many Levels.

I think Monica's voice is absolutely terrible, and Brandy's voice isn't too far behind.
I mean, like, where is the sun?

1.aalyiah - angelic vocals, very airy, light. Janet-esque. Can't really scream with her voice, but delivered nonetheless.
2.monica - Has a churchy voice. Heavily gospel-influenced with an urban twang. Sounds older than her years.
3.brandy - Raspy, quasi-smokey vocals. She can yell, she can go low and it's kind of sophisticated. It's cool.

Kind of weird to compare these 3 young divas to Celine. I'm not going to get off on her, since I'm still mad at her for upright jocking Toni Braxton's singing style in a song off her 1997 album.

why not celine? she has perfect pitch and incredible vocal range. plays around with different colors in her voice and can really hit the "money notes", you know those notes where she has that incredible hang time and breaks off into vibrato... i saw her at a backstage fan meet and greet in cleveland a few years back, where she broke into this impromptu rendition of "oh happy day" with a local women's church group...BAPTIST church group, that is. these were little, old-school elderly black women that you KNEW had spent some serious time singing praises unto the Lord! and that little skinny canadian woman TORE THAT SONG UP LIKE JESUS HAD WALKED IN THE ROOM HIMSELF and it was time to pass the collection plate! i was almost ready to pull out my wallet and ask them to pass the basket- i mean, i was completely FLOORED, like i was at a patti labelle jr. show or something...seeing her go off like that, i haven't been able to clown on her since that day. i must admit though, that i do believe you can't compare the other girls to her, based on their respective differences age and in the material they record. as a vocalist i respect celine's talent, but let's be real, she makes music for the sappy adult comtemporary market...not that there's anything wrong with that- being that i'm a sappy contemporary adult myself. brandy and monica are in a completely different market/demographic musically, and thus
not really good choices for comparison (at least for me)...
maybe somebody like jessica simpson is a more logical choice to compare them with...(just guessing)...

Essence

Aaliyah has the best overall vibe with all three competent "R&B" vocalists.

Celine, Mariah and even Whitney to a degree are all technique and zero feeling/good material IMO.

i know EXACTLY which track you're talking about! i thought the very same thing when i heard it, too! although, with the way the music industry is run in this day and age, i had to go ahead and get over that, being that producers are in charge of every single peep that comes out of a vocalist's mouth (unless of course the singer has written and/or at least co_produced the song herself). i have a friend that actually had the opportunity to demo a song with celine for her "people" for the latest cd that's out now. keeping in mind that this is a fairly young, classically trained musician, he told me the thing that astonished him most about her was not only her professionalism, but her discipline and capability for different vocal techniques. he explained that producers have a difficult time to get singers to hit notes according to what's been composed "technically", and have to repeat takes bar by bar, endlessly, to get what they originally envision. in this case, my friend happily compared his experience with celine to being with a little bird who can really "mimic" sounds- dead on, only one take needed, no matter how difficult - apparently something completely unheard of in his circle of peers. and he was completely happy with that. in that case, i could totally see how the producer of the song (is it called "why oh why?"...) was probably sitting up there with her in that vocal booth going, "okay, now do the next four bars like this..." and the next thing you know, we end up with a song from this little white quebecois girl, sounding like the ghost of toni braxton... i wonder in fact, if the producer of THAt song has worked on any of toni's stuff-that would explain a lot...
