Recommend an Old Skool Hip Hop CD!

Hey Guys, Can any of you recommend an old skool cd for me to check out. When I say old skool I mean from the 80's (not the 90's). I was thinking of MC Lyte, Audio 2 or EPMD. I'm looking for something with some hot beats. What should I get?

Cheers!

"Top Billin" is one of my favorite beats EVER! But the Audio Two album overall isn't hittin'.

I'd recommend EPMD's debut, Strictly Business. It's been reissued over and over, and for good reason: it's classic. Not hard to find.

Beats sampled from Rick James, Zapp, Aretha Franklin, the JB's...

The whole thing is really good.

Oops. Didn't see that you were looking for one of those specific three. Go with Cee's pick if you're staying with those.

I remember in `99 I was in a celeb chat with Missy Elliott and my question was "what CD is in your player right now"?

I remember her saying Rick James and the first two MC Lyte's biggrin

A pair of classics:

Boogie Down Productions "Criminal Minded"

This was the first of a string of albums which established the blueprint for what would become hardcore or gangsta rap. Along with Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full," it lays claim to being one of the first albums to use extensively James Brown samples.

Public Enemy "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back"

The title says it all; this is arguably the greatest rap album ever made. Public Enemy's music cut with a wholly revolutionary edge. Rarely has fear, anger, paranoia and anxiety been so masterfully compressed onto a record's grooves. The Bomb Squad's artistry is the keynote to the hard, lean delivery, while Chuck D's supremely pointed lyrics leave no stone of the black experience unturned.

[Edited 10/3/06 18:46pm]
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

These are all good recommendation, but I realized... dancerella likes alot of new wave and electronic beats, so maybe we could recommend some mid-80s rap that's more drum machine driven.
