Nice to see Tony Bennett and John Mayer there. Most of the others are predictable and boring.

Janet Jackson's "20 Y.O." enters at No. 2 with 296,000, Jackson's eighth straight top three debut. However, it's her smallest debut sales week since "The Velvet Rope" started at No. 1 with 202,000 in 1997. <<<

They shouldn't be comparing debut weeks. I don't remember the first week sales ever being a big deal until around 1999. Before then most albums would have their peak sales week ages after release.

ok, that shit was a fat suit. i'm convinced. her arms don't match the body at all. and in other pictures her legs don't match the body. i'm convinced she wore a fat suit so when she came back all fit people would be astonished and it would provide tons of press. come on...where are all the strectch marks and sagging skin?

I'm quite shocked that the album has done THAT badly outside the US, but then, like Damita Jo, it had no decent, straight between the eyes lead-off single to establish it, just weedy whimpering mid-tempo drivel. She should fire the troll.

Just A Little While was a pretty decent, straight between the eyes lead-off single, I thought. it was certainly the best choice from that album.

Those are still excellent numbers for somebody who's not being promoted much on the radio and MTV. (Thank God for Oprah)

And it went .... straight between the eyes to nowhere .... with a bullet! lol

My thoughts exactly. She took a tip from Nutty Professor 2. Actually, maybe her mystery film role was Nutty Professor 3, with her in the title role, and Jd as her skinny gnomic alter ego. lol

it was doing pretty well pre-Super Bowl. but yeah, it went nowhere. but i can't imagine any other single from that album doing that well. and that's before factoring in the SB disaster.

I honestly don't understand what the Super Bowl incident have to do with how your album charts. "I saw your nipple, I'm not going to buy your CD" ??? That's really a stupid retarded argument. If the music is good, people will buy it, if it's not, then so be it.

more than the Super Bowl, i think that's exactly why people didn't buy it. it wasn't good.

I think you're right there. Had she released a "When I Think Of You"/"Nasty"/"That's the Way Love Goes" etc etc after the incident it probably would have gone straight in at No 1. Instead she released a complete damp squib of a single which had all the memorability of a fart in a hurricane. A bit like her last album. But let's not go there .... lol

It was a natural progression with three new anticipated albums. The true success of an album is it's progress over time. Justin will last longer in the top ten than Janet.

And Justin's cd is FULL of potential hit singles, I don't hear that on that 20 Y.O mess. I SO wanted to love it but I could not have been anymore disappointed.

Honestly, Janet has nothing to prove anymore, she already has the records and numbers to stomp anybody. And the crazy thing is that she has never been known or supposed to be known for her criticial acclaim as an artist, she's no Aretha Franklin or Patti Labelle. She's a dance/pop artist with a weak voice who relied on producers to make her sound and sell millions of copies. So to say that her career is over is stupid because what Justin, Beyonce, Ciara, and Rhianna are trying to do now, she already did it and then some. So MTV and everybody can shit on her whenever, wherever, whatever, but the bottom line is that she did it whether you like her music or not. Her numbers speak for themselves and the new artist are using the same blueprint for success.

I found this over on the SOHH.COM blog

Janet, Beyonce and Tina... Don't Gag, Sh*t Happens!
Last night I went to the Fat Joe listening session held at the Virgin Records cafeteria hosted by Joe himself. As Joe's bangin' new set filled the air, so did this weird eeri-ness that something just wasn't right.

There was a lot of whispering, some of it was in agreement that Me, Myself and I is some of Joe's best shit yet. That joint with him and the Game is sure to be a hit. However the majority of the people there were talking about how Janet Jackson didn't debut at #1 according to Hits Daily Double. Some wondered would the numbers be massaged a little for the more official Billboard report. Funny thing is, Def Jam had already claimed their victory. As we walked up to the Virgin Records office, Ludacris' street team had covered the entire block with his posters as if 5th Avenue were Peachtree Street or Camberton Road.

A lot of people are gagging this morning. Some heads should roll. One in particular being [CENSORED]. That negro should be the first to go. He's turned down major promotional ideas and he'd been overheard saying in days prior, "I don't need her to sell big numbers, I just need her to debut at #1." Just another example of them resting on their laurels and underestimating the fans and the competition.

Soundscan / Billboard agrees

Luda # 1 - 309,000
Janet # 2 - 296,000

>>>In a week featuring debuts in the first four slots of The Billboard 200, Ludacris' "Release Therapy" bows at No. 1 with 309,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The DTP/Def Jam effort is the rapper's third chart-topper, following 2003's "Chicken 'N Beer" and 2004's "Red Light District." It is also his sixth No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums tally.

Janet Jackson's "20 Y.O." enters at No. 2 with 296,000, Jackson's eighth straight top three debut. However, it's her smallest debut sales week since "The Velvet Rope" started at No. 1 with 202,000 in 1997. <<<

I still think debuting at #2 is not bad. I don't know why anyone would consider that a failure and there are chances it would go to #1. If she would have debut lower than that then maybe. Sorry guys, except for one or two songs, Janets CD is just full of forgettable tracks.

There is not even a 1 in a million chance of that happening! reissues will never generate the same interest as the first time!!Plus her next album will do alot worse then this one that how the music industry works!! I dont think 296k is so bad without oprah she whould have been about 200-220k. Look at what happened with TLC janet will go the same way. TLC like janet r both producer heavy and high on video support
