song of the summer

It was a toss up between Days Go By, Hella Good and Hot In Here...what choices eh? But Nelly (ack!) wins because of the subject matter, the groove to it(dont front like u aint danced to this or grooved to it cause I saw ya). Hella Good hit its peak in the spring. Hot In Here is ubiquitous..now die hards dont kill me--of course Nelly isnt true "hip hop" but his songs are dance hip hop etc and thats what a summer song is about...empty calories, suagr etc. Like a summer movie.Shit is being played at clubs, beaches and barbeques. Come together.

Don't forget another "song of the summer", that annoying Sheryl Crow "Soak up the Sun" or whatever the heck it's called. They play that song here like once every hour. I am sooo tired of that damn song. rolleyes rolleyes
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

'Hot in herre', although it's not a particular favorite. Only because it sure was hot over here!!!

My song of the summer: 'Soul Sanctuary'. I've been listening to it over and over before summer started, and still going...

Days Go By has a wonderfully simple video with a story told on screen. For some reason, it's one of the first videos that I feel in a while

My vote actually goes for "American Girls" by Counting Crows. But that's just me. I love Hella Good too, though. Or how about "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones? Then there's that "Girls of Summer" by Aerosmith (you got admit, at least the video is really cool!)

As much as it pains me, I would have to say Hot in Herre.

How about One Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton? I hear that song at least once every day, guaranteed.
I mean, like, where is the sun?

And what's that?

I personally define it as a song that became popular during the summertime...

Yeah, Hella Good for example might've technically hit its peak during May, but it's still everywhere and popular during the last few weeks of summer.

Besides, I can never give THE song of the summer to anything in the hip-hop genre...wink That's just my personal taste of course.

It has to be able to be played in the car with the top down and make u groove or rock...it has attract the attention of passers-by who nod in unison..it has to be played in clubs, barbeques and beaches with the same effect.

It may still be getting airplay etc but u put Hot In Here up against Hella and see what happens, which one gets the gangstas of the summer groove mantel.

Jimmy Eat World - "The Middle"

Not that I like it, I think there's better songs on that album, but in my part of the country, (Minneapolis) this song is everywhere.

LOL...you know, when I first heard this song,I thought it was incredibly corny and stupid. But,hearing it in a nightclub while you're half-drunk is another whole experience...wink

But seriously, the song rocks! I also love the sexy girl in the video who sings the hook "I am getting so hot,I'm gonna take my clothes off" smile

Well for those who don't understand the Nelly song. It takes from the Chuck Brown song "bustin' loose" and if you don't know who Chuck Brown is then...well...you should be shot!! (DC area, Go-Go music)

Hot in Herre, love it!! Just like I can still hear Summertime by Will Smith and think of summer!!!

Ok, Ok, no disrespect at all but how old are? Do you mean "Country grammar" by Nelly. If so, WOW, my 60 year old mother has the remix cd of country grammar. I'm hoping my ears can stay in tuned like her's when i'm 60. You know, she listens to her Ike and tina then follows it with a little Mr. Cheeks and lights, camera, action (my stripping song)!

my grandma was hip too. i miss her so much.

Fuck Nelly. I'm not a big fan of Ja either but I really love that "I Wanna Be Your Chick" song or whatever it's called. It sounds like a breezy update of Kim's "Crush On You" and I like how the guests all mix together. To me, that song and video ARE summer.

I don't like Nelly. He needs to learn to spell.

Ja Rule makes me want to poke my eyes out with a hot poker.

My song of the summer would be "Wish You Were Here" by incubus. The guitar riff sounds like water and it makes me think of the beach. smile

P.S. - I LOVE Chuck Brown and all go go music.

*shakes it like a white girl* lol

You're talking about the song "Down 4 U" by Irv Gotti Presents...Ja Rule,Ashanti,Vita and Charli Baltimore.I like this song too.It has a nice, mellow groove to it and it sounds great in the clubs. It's hip-hop that you can chill out to.Ashanti looks TOO SEXY in the video!!

Speaking of the video...wassup with that weird cameo by Whitney and Bobby? They look like they're higher than a kite!
