"stone of sisyphus"-Chicago. This thing, if it ever does turn up on ebay, goes for over $100 each time.

It is a boot though, but a full studio album one, which infact, like "the black album" got cancelled at the very last second by Warners. A few real copies did get out apparantly.

Jam & Lewis: The Hits

Not too rare, I guess but it'll catch a pretty penny on eBay.

Several years ago, while down South, a friend of my husband's bought him a Jimi Hendrix album at a flea market. The Genius of Jimi Hendrix. The album was released in 1981 with songs that were from 1966 (according to the jacket cover).

The rarity is the album that was actually inside. It was not The Genius of Jimi Hendrix, but an unlabeled fan recording from some concert that he did. There's no markings at all on the album, no numbers or anything. Whoever made it, simply cut out a white circle with "1" on it for side one and "2" for side 2.

I'm sure there's no way of ever telling what concert it was from or when it was recorded. He starts out tuning the guitar, introducing Mitch Mitchell and then goes into Spanish Castle Magic. There's no break between songs, just the entire 78 is the whole concert, straight through.

Sounds pretty rare, right? I just wish I knew more about it.

Overproduced,,,not really what I expected, intersting none the less. But I was supriced that the late Jazz diva Betty Carter was digging the hell out of the song,,,it was reported that she would play it in her concert(during that time). Sarah Vaughan too wanted Arif Mardin to hook something up for her and Chaka to sing,,,but sadly, the duet was never settled.

The rarest CD I own is 'Lost Sides' by Doves.

There's a copy currently on sale for £125.00, here: http://eil.com/shop/morei...gid=176625

There were only 1,250 copies pressed and I can't believe I own one.

This was a promo from 2001 and isn't the similarly-titled B-Sides collection from 2003.

Care to expand on that?

I have lots of 'rare' albums, but they're really only rare because most people couldn't be bothered to listen to them. Though I was a fairly hard-core vinyl buyer through most of my twenties to the extent my collection pretty much took over my living space, I only own two collectables:

PiL's Metal Box (on vinyl, of course) probably doesn't even qualify as a true rarity - I've seen a few copies float around the dingy backwater where I live, so it's out there to be found if one has the initiative. My copy has only been played twice and the canister is in perfect shape.

I also own a Japanese boxed set of the first six Clash singles on 45 7" vinyl that's never been played. I have no idea what this is worth, but I paid $60.00 for it back in '89 and I've kept it in perfect shape.

I have a lot of things which are rare-ish...prolly similar to what damosuzuki said...

this is one album I know is more rare than most I own and one of my faves:

I believe this was only a dutch pressing...when I came across it YEARS ago at the local shop, the cashier guy (who I knew ummmm intimately) freaked out. He couldn't believe he hadn't seen the vinyl come in as he had been looking for this record. Lucky at that time I was digging Mr Record Store Man so I visited daily and flipped thru the vinyl lol
