Am I The Only Person That Didn't Know That Freddie Jackson's Hit "Jam Tonight" Was A Remake? I found out the other day that it was originally recorded by Howard Johnson. 
The only song I recall by Howard Johnson is "So Fine" which used to be my jam back in the day.  | |

Freddie Jackson co-wrote "Jam Tonight" with Paul Laurence. Jackson and Laurence wrote the song when they were members of the Laurence Jones Ensemble before their recording careers started. "Jam Tonight" reportedly was also one of the songs Jackson performed at a night club where Melba Moore first discovered him. Howard Johnson's version of "Jam Tonight" was on his debut album, 1982's "Keepin' Love New." Paul Laurence was one of the producers on the album (along with Kashif).
I wouldn't call Jackson's version of "Jam Tonight" a remake, since he originally co-wrote the song. Usually, when I think of remakes I think of someone not having any part of the original creative process of a song later making a recording of said song.
