I hate that I don't dig Janet anymore I used to love Janet. I don't dislike her music now as much as I've just lost the ability to get into it. Control was the album of 1986 for me and, at the time, was getting a whole lot more spins than Parade. Rhythm Nation goes in my all time Top 10 and that was the first concert I ever saw, all the more special because it was with the women who became my wife. I was still feeling her with Janet but I felt there was a drop-off. Half of "The Velvet Rope" just left me cold, even though I still liked some of the CD. "All For You" felt kind of cast-ff. And that leads us to the last two, Damita Jo and 20 YO, neither of which I own. Considering that Janet was a solid number 2 behind Prince for several years it just seems weird that I'm not still a fan. I mean people's music tastes change as they age but my music taste doesn't tend to fluctuate that wildly. Is anyone else at this level, a former Janet fan who has just fallen off the bandwagon over time? All good things they say never last...

Goddamn, how many more Janet threads do we need?
I felt that way about the B-52's. I took them off my favorites list after the 'Good Stuff' album.

Not entirely. But I'm halfway between my hardcore fandom days and totally not caring.

I am getting really close to the totally not caring stage. God, in years past I would have been at the record store at the opening. Now, I don't even know if I will sample the tracks on Napster. All good things they say never last...

No, I've been there for awhile and it's a weird feeling being that I grew up on her and she was right outside of the top three for me (Prince, MJ and Madonna) had the top spots for me. I was also a collector but the last thing I've bought was the I Get So Lonely single. Control was a big deal to me personally and even though janet. might not be that great, at the time it was very special to me. Her music was the background for much of my developmental years. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

That's what it feels like. I've grown and my taste in music has grown and changed but Janet and Flyte Tyme are still way back there somewhere. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

i don't think she'll ever (to me) be what she was during velvet rope but...whatever. if janet wants to have fun, i'll keep her on board for my fun ladies to hang out with on a rainy day.
or whatever. i'm just trying to keep the janet threas at the top of the page.

I felt that way about the B-52's. I took them off my favorites list after the 'Good Stuff' album. We need to change this board to Music: Janet's Boring New Album. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
