Lucinda and Victoria both great artists but I have to be biased here...
LUCINDA IS AN ABSOLUTE SONGWRITING GENIUS...dont believe me? listen to 'Car Wheels On A Gravel Road' beginning to end. That album along with 'Lucinda Williams' (1988) self titled have moved me in a way very few albums move me. Just beautiful music through and through. She has never made a bad album. Cant wait for the next. I've seen her live 4 times and she's up there with Prince in my book! Victoria has worked with Wendy & Lisa several times by the way! Not too educated on her but do like what shes done for Sweet Relief and a bunch of other charities peace [Edited 9/28/06 12:02pm] Every minute of last night is on my face today....

I really only knew "Can't let Go" by Lucinda, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Always have. Before hearing that, I knew of Victoria because of "Sweet Relief". In my mind, they became the same person. Then up in SF, sosgemini played a Victoria song for me (w/Wendy & Lisa on it - of course!) that I absolutely adore. When I got home, I pulled my head out of my ass and paid attention to their names!!!!

Baby...RUN dont walk and get Lucinda's self titled album & 'Car Wheels' to start and go from there...you will be amazed. She's an amazing storyteller. If you totally fall in love...Lost Highway is releasing a Deluxe Edition of 'Car Wheels' in October with all sorts of extra goodies and a complete live show! The self-tltled came out 10 years before 'Car Wheels' (1988) and revolutionized country rock for that generation...just about every song on that album has been covered by other artists...most famously..'Passionate Kisses' was covered by Mary Chapin Carpenter and it became her biggest hit! Lucinda won a Grammy for that one. Go and fall in love with Lu! Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Your tastes change through time...I'm 31 now and at around 22-23 I was working at a record store and just started exploring other types of music and stumbled upon an artist Kim Richey who wrote my favorite songs by Trisha Yearwood...I opened up her 'Bitter Sweet' album and my taste for Americana/Alt-Country was born...It's what I listen to most these days...but I still queen out to Madonna and Janet from time to time! Lucinda Williams is one of the few female artists I unreservedly love. Lucinda Williams, Sweet Old World and Car Wheels... are absolutely three of the finest albums you will ever hear. I haven't been too wild over her more recent recordings, but she's certainly one of the greatest among modern performers, and if there was even the slightest iota of justice in the world, she'd be a superstar.
as for Victoria W...meh, I can leaver her or I can take her.

Chris, I think you can really grow to love her A week after Katrina she played the Anaheim Grove and at the end she sang 'Crescent City', 'Lake Charles' and 'Bus To Baton Rouge' all stories from her hometown and there wasnt a dry eye in the house...those songs took on a whole new meaning from that point...thats the magic of her songwriting. 'Something About What Happens When We Talk' from SWEET OLD WORLD is one of my all time favorites...just wanted to share! . Every minute of last night is on my face today....

The rolling drums begin and the first track is seriously a mix between something country and old school soul....followed by a slow lament....kicked up with some honky tonk goodness....into matters of the heart accompanied by organs and violins....into contemporary country pop.... This album is so fucking fantastic it's not even funny. One of my favorite of all time 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

'Leavin' and 'Dreamsome' are insanly beautiful. I'm into sad songs if you couldnt tell by now .. Funny thing is that she won best new artist the year that album came out, beating Jill Scott, and it was her 6th studio album Word of advise, skip "Love, Shelby". It's obvious her record label went for easy cash by using her newfound grammy winner status to create an album you can tell does not have her heart in it. I knew this on first listen and that it was a sell out and she later confirmed this. But she came back strong with "Identity Crisis". Her latest "Suit Yourself" is great. She's a very strong song writer And she has such a tragic life story. Her dad killed her mother and then took his life, while the kids watched on. Before knowing this you could hear her heart is in her songwriting but knowing that you can tell she is laying it all out there, crushed and all.....exposing her innards to the world. I simply love this chick to death!!!!! I put her on some of my mixes so you might have heard her music and just not realized it 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740
